We are located at 3001 4th Ave., Conway, South Carolina, on U.S. Highway 701 South, about 15 miles from the ocean resort, Myrtle Beach. Conway is the county seat for Horry County. It is a growing town that has streets lined with azaleas and majestic old oak trees. In the 1970-1971 school year, South Conway Elementary was formed through the consolidation of the all-Black Bucksport Elementary School and the predominantly White Jamestown Elementary School. The original facility was built in 1956 and has been significantly upgraded in 1976, 1988, 1990 and 2001. The current facility, which is located at 3001 4th Avenue within the Conway, South Carolina city limits houses 592 students. South Conway consists of grades CD-5. The school is designated a total Title I school with over eighty-two percent of our student body qualifying for free and/or reduced lunch. Our school provides services to all our students on an “as needed” basis. Other programs to meet special needs are: special education resource, speech/language therapy, Reading Recovery, child development, preschool, developmentally delayed, self contained special education classes for the learning disabled, emotionally disabled, educable, trainable and profoundly mentally disabled. Numerous significant changes have taken place recently with the most notable being the strides in technology that have placed computers in every classroom, two fully equipped computer labs and on-going training for the staff. South Conway was recognized in 2002 by the South Carolina Department of Education as a Palmetto Gold Award Winner. On the state of South Carolina's first school report card, South Conway received an absolute rating of average, an improvement rating of excellent, and an overall composite rating of excellent as well. Our team of educators, including teaching, support, and administrative staff, work collaboratively with the community toward the total development of each child. You are cordially invited to our school for a personal visit.
