5th Grade Activities

Chorus: 5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the "Singing Stingray" chorus. They practice once a week and perform at different local events. Some of the events include: The Blessing of the Inlet, Christmas tree lightings at various community locations, Inlet Square Mall, and several school assemblies.

Math Olympiad: This challenging math program teaches the students problem solving skills. There are monthly assessments that test their abilities. This program is designed to prepare the students for the middle school mathematics courses.

Junior Lifeguard: Students have the opportunity to participate in various lifeguarding situations. The students must first pass a swimming test, and then they go through the process of learning lifeguarding skills. Water entries, non-swimming rescues, backboarding, CPR, and first aid are also taught during this course. The students meet once a week, and also have the opportunity to hear guest speakers from the state parks, National Weather Service, health professionals, and the National Surfrider Foundation. Upon completion, students will receive Junior Lifeguard certification.

Kickball Game:  Every year students select 4 students from each class to participate in a kickball game against the Seaside Elementary faculty.

Fifth Grade Night:  In May, fifth grade students participate in fifth grade night.  A theme is chosen for this special night by the students.  The evening is filled with many fun events including a t-shirt signing, dinner, talent show, and ice cream social

Other Activities: Students may also participate in the  Spirit Team and Book Buddies
