Benedict College will host the Summer Transportation Institute for rising 10^th and 11^th grade students. The four-week residential institute is a structured learning opportunity for youth in the secondary school systems of South Carolina. To qualify students must:

be a rising 10^th or 11^th grader
have a 2.5 or higher GPA
have an interest in Engineering, Science, Transportation or Technology base careers
Have two letters of recommendation from the student’s science and math teachers
Have PSAT/ PLAN scores
be able to attend the entire Institute
Applications are due by May 23^rd.

Congratulations to Katelyn Vereen. Katelyn has been accepted to the SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville, SC.

Summer Science Program 2008

The Summer Science Program 20008 is open to rising 9^th and 10^th graders
Each camp runs for one week.
The Chicora Rotary Club is sponsoring two $500.00 scholarships for HCS students who are interested in attending the GSSM Summer Science Program 2008. Interested students should do the following:
Complete the application for the summer Science Program
Submit an essay explaining who they would like to attend the Summer Science Program and what they expect from the experience.
Submit tow recommendation letters
Deadline for student applications to be considered for the Chicora rotary Club scholarship is April, 23. Essay and recommendations should be turned in to Julie Hearn. Pease see Ms. Hearn for additional information.

Junior male and females interested in Law Enforcement may obtain an application from Mrs. Gaghum to attend a SC Law Cadet Program.

THe program is free if selected to attend.

University of Virginia summer offers summer Enrichment Programs for Senior High-Grades 10-12 and Junior High-Grades 7-9 SAT/ACT Prep for Grades 10-12 and American Studies for International Students. Furman University, June 22-28, 2008. Emerging Public Leaders, South Carolina on the Move is an exciting service-oriented leadership program open to rising high school seniors. The program is free of charge to all students who are selected to participate. See Mrs. Gaghum in guidance for more details and an application.

The University of South Carolina, in conjunction with Wachovia Bank, will sponsor the WSBAM summer program for high achieving minority students interested in a business field. The program is scheduled for June 21-27, 2008 on the campus of University of South Carolina. Interested students should see Mrs. Gaghum in guidance for information and an application.
