Meet Dr. Cindy Elsberry
Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Cindy Elsberry has served as Superintendent of Horry County Schools, the state’s third largest school system, since July of 2008. She has spent much of that time listening and interacting with the stakeholders of the school district to help craft her goals for “Reaching Our Destination…Greatness.” As a result, she has focused on three key areas: People, Learning, and Engagement – or more specifically investing in the development of our teachers and leaders, using 21st century tools to teach 21st century skills, and engaging and challenging students in learning.

Dr. Elsberry came to Horry County from Talladega County Schools (Alabama) where she was the Superintendent for six years. She has held teaching and educational administrative positions in Alabama and Georgia, been an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama, and belongs to the Schlechty Center Superintendent Network.

Dr. Elsberry earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Elsberry and her husband Randy Elsberry have made their home in the country near Conway. They have two children and two grandchildren.
