2009-10 District Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalists Announced
A teacher in each school has earned the honor of being chosed by his or her peers as the school-level Teacher of the Year. This recognition pays tribute to a teacher's professionalism, effectiveness, and commitment to the profession. Ten Semi-Finalists are named from this impressive group and will be interviewed by a committee where they will share artifacts of student achievement. The list of semifinalists will be narrowed to five finalists on March 12. The five finalists will be observed in their classrooms by committee members and the Horry County Teacher of the Year will be named at a banquet on May 4. Congratulations to the following Special Education Teachers who were selected as Semi-Finalists!

Hathaway named 2009 Specific Learning Disabilities Teacher of the Year
Richard Hathaway of Palmetto Bays Elementary School was named the 2009 Specific Learning Disabilities Teacher of the Year by the Carolinas Chapter of the Council for Learning Disabilities. Hathaway is a special education teacher at Palmetto Bays Elementary School. He will be recognized at the 31st International Conference on Learning Disabilities on October 2-3 in Dallas, Texas. He receives a complementary conference registration, a $200 honorarium, and $250 toward travel expenses. During the conference, Hathaway will participate in a Master Teacher Showcase and will be presented with an award.
