HCS students earn honors at state DECA competition

Students from four area high schools brought home honors from the State DECA Career Development Conference which was held February 26-28 in Charleston, S.C. 

DECA is an association for high school students involved in marketing, management, and entrepreneurial classes that teaches civic consciousness, social awareness, and leadership development. 

Winners are as follows:

Academy for Technology and Academics:

  • Ebony Dyson and Caresha Ladson – 2nd place (Learn and Earn Project)
  • Bryana Evans – 2nd place (Marketing Management Series)
  • Iunamei Halahingano – 4th place (Technical Sales)
  • Vicky Bernache – finalist (Hotel & Lodging Management)
  • Jerimee Jones, Danisha Lewis, and Carmeeka Burroughs – finalist (Advertising Campaign)

Myrtle Beach High School:

  • Quinisha Hemingway – 1st place, state winner of Principles of Finance
  • Amanda Millen and Cameron Clark – 3rd place in Business Law & Ethics
  • Andrew Miller – 3rd place in Principles of Business Management & Administration
  • Salem Zeglin and Jordan Butler – 4th place Financial Analysis Team Decision Making
  • Kristine Zilonka – 4th place in Principles of Hospitality & Tourism
  • Shaquita Green – 5th place in Principles of Finance
  • Naaja Young – 5th place in Accounting Applications
  • Elliott Myers – Top 10, Sports and Entertainment Marketing
  • Stormy Hinson – Top 10, Principles of Hospitality & Tourism
  • Leslie Sanders – Top 10, Principles of Hospitality & Tourism
  • Brooke Skelly and PJ Thomas – Top 10, Buying & Merchandising Team Decision Making
  • Erika Collins and Alissa Broadbent – Top 10, Business Law & Ethics Management Team Decision Making
  • Anna Smith and Colby VanVolkenburgh – Top 10, Financial Analysis Team Decision Making
  • Ashley Poland – Top 10, Marketing Management Series

  • Teasia Thomas – 2nd Place, Quick Service Restaurant Management

Socastee High School:

  • Jessica Richards – 1st Place, Quick Serve Restaurant Management
  • Courtnay Bourque – 4th Place, Quick Serve Restaurant Management
  • Chelsea McKinney – 4th Place, Retail Merchandising Series
  • Deanna Miller – 4th Place, Apparel & Accessories Marketing Series
  • Kate Parris – 5th Place, Food Marketing Series
  • Alley Cuozzo – Top 10, Retail Merchandising Series
  • Kristen McCulloch – Top 10, Sports & Entertainment Marketing Series
  • Meredith Neely – Top 10, Food Marketing Series
  • Jessica Pilkington – Top 10, Principles of Marketing
  • Parker Rehm – Top 10, Principles of Hospitality & Tourism

  • Kate Parris – elected to the State Officer Team as SC DECA Vice President of Chapter Development

First, second and third place winners are now eligible to attend the International DECA Career Development Conference that will take place April 24-27 in Louisville, KY.
