Adult Education program wins three state awards

Horry County Schools’ Adult Education program received three awards at the “Celebrating Our Success” luncheon sponsored by the State Department of Education on November 13.

The awards received are the Palmetto Trend-Setters Award for having exceeded the state GED passing rate, the Palmetto Masters Award for having met or exceeded state performance standards among first-time test takers, and the Correctional Education/Career Readiness Certificate Award for having awarded a minimum of 25 Career Readiness Certificates to persons incarcerated in a county jail.

The HCS program is led by Dr. Virginia Simmons, Director of Adult Education. She was named “Rookie Director of the Year” at the awards program.
