Eight apply for District 10 appointment to the Horry County Board of Education

The Horry County Board of Education has received eight applications for persons seeking to fill the District 10 vacancy created when Governor Mark Sanford suspended the elected Board member representing that area. The Board will meet in executive session on Monday, August 3, at 4 p.m. to review the applications. The Board will determine which applicants to contact to discuss the responsibilities of the position and expects to make a recommendation at the 6 p.m. meeting on the same evening. The name will be submitted to Governor Sanford for his consideration.

The vacancy will be filled by appointment until the 2010 general election, at which time a member will be elected from District 10 for a term of four years, or until such time that the Governor reinstates the suspended Board member.
