HCS performing arts groups chosen for SCSBA Annual Convention

The Carolina Forest Elementary School Taiko Drum Ensemble and the Myrtle Beach High School Orchestra have been selected by the South Carolina School Boards Association to perform for their annual convention which is scheduled for February in Myrtle Beach. Only four groups from across the state are chosen each year for this distinguished honor.


CFE Taiko DrumsThe Carolina Forest Elementary School Taiko Drum Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Tim Peterman, is made up of 2nd – 5th grade students chosen by audition. Combining drumming and choreography, they form an exciting and dynamic group. They have performed at the American Orff Schelwerk International Conference in Charlotte, NC; JapanFest in Atlanta, GA; for NASA in Washington, DC; with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; SC Music Educators Conferences; Monday After the Masters with Hootie and the Blowfish; and state Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion.



MBHS Orchestra

The Myrtle Beach High School Orchestra Program, under the direction of Lynn Auman, was initiated in January, 2000. The group currently consists of 94 members and performs for many community functions, conferences, and special events in the Myrtle Beach area. They perform four formal concerts throughout the school year, and travel to state and national orchestra festivals. The Myrtle Beach High Orchestra has performed in New York City, Atlanta Georgia, and at Walt Disney World. They consistently receive Superior ratings at the SC Orchestra Concert Festival. Many members of the orchestra are selected by audition for the All-County, Low Country Region and S.C. All State Orchestras.
