District high schools bring home honors in state DECA competition

Four area high schools brought home statewide honors for team and individual events at the DECA South Carolina Career Development Conference held February 22-24. DECA is a student association for grades 9 - 12 that teaches civic consciousness, social awareness, and leadership development.

School and individual honors are as follows:

Academy for Technology and Academics:

  • 1st Place – Michael Rovetto, Sports Track of the Virtual Business Challenge
  • 2nd Place – Michael Rovetto, Entrepreneurship Participating Event
  • Honorable Mention – Lindsy Dodson, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Event
  • Top Ten – Caitlyn Subbert, Hotel & Lodging Management
  • Silver Award – Chapter Award Program
  • STAR and Gold Recognition – ATA obtained 10 more members and achieved 100% membership

Socastee High School:

  • 2nd Place – Sarah Oakley, Apparel & Accessories Marketing, $750 Scholarship
  • 2nd Place – Monroe Griffin, Technical Sales Event
  • 3rd Place – Steven Vereen, Automotive Services Marketing
  • SC State DECA Vice President – Cassady Jones
  • Top Ten – Anh Lee, Apparel & Accessories Marketing
  • Top Ten – Courtney Bourne, Quick Serve Restaurant Management
  • Top Ten – Jessica Richards, Quick Serve Restaurant Management
  • Top Ten – Precious Graham, Accounting Applications

North Myrtle Beach High School:

  • 1st Place – Jordan Osborne, Restaurant & Food Service Management
  • 1st Place – Karmen Smith, Hotel & Lodging Management
  • 3rd Place – Marissa Vereen, Restaurant & Food Service Management

Myrtle Beach High School:

  • 1st place – Lani Montrosse, Michelle Russell, Logan Yongue, Creative Marketing Project
