Assignments to schools
The District is made up of 51 schools in nine attendance areas: Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, and St. James. Each area consists of a high school and the elementary and middle schools that feed into it. The District has 26 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 10 high schools, two academies, an alternative school and two charter schools across a county that is larger in area than the state of Rhode Island.
Students are assigned to schools based on where they live. If you are moving to our area and are unsure about your child's attendance area, consult with Joe Burch, the District 's planning coordinator, at 843 488-6712 or jburch@do.hcs.k12.sc.us.
In-District Transfers
Transfers to other schools may be approved for hardship situations. Hardship situations may include, but are not limited to, childcare, parent's work schedule or location, health care, preferred academic offerings, and intent to relocate the primary residence within the year. Previously approved transfer students need not reapply to attend the same school or the feeder school in the same attendance area. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for students for elective transfers.
New student transfers may not be approved for schools that are operating at 100 percent above the capacity. These schools include Carolina Forest Elementary School, Ocean Bay Elementary School, Loris Elementary School and Forestbrook Middle School. To receive a transfer application, call the Office of Student Affairs at 488-6770.
