Uthe one of two South Carolina teachers named a Fellow in the New Science Teacher Academy
Sean Uthe of the Academy for Technology and Academics is one of only two South Carolina public high school teachers among 185 middle and secondary science teachers from across the nation named Fellows in the 2009 New Science Teacher Academy. Read more.

Assess Online has been retired
Assess Online is being replaced by the new HCS Data Center. This new system will extract data from the HCS Data Warehouse and display the information in a variety of user requested reports. These reports will include the reports formerly provided in the Assess Online application as well as reports from other domains such as attendance, grades and discipline. Read more.

Tammy Trulove is in her second year as the Coordinator of Student Health Services. Often working behind the scenes to support school nurses and serving as a liaison with the medical community, Tammy has found herself thrust into the media spotlight to respond to questions about flu. Online learning options expand for students
There is more on the menu this year for high school students who want to order rigorous courses in a virtual classroom. In fact, there are 28 online offerings for HCS students to choose from, including Advanced Placement classes in macroeconomics, microeconomics, physics and psychology, along with foreign language courses that include Mandarin Chinese. Loris High School’s Army JROTC won First Place in the competitive event at the Aynor Harvest Hoe-Down Parade. Green Sea Floyds High School’s Army JROTC came in Second Place.

Schools collect over $85,000 for the American Heart Association
Twenty Horry County Schools’ elementary schools and two middle schools participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart earlier this year. Donations from 2,074 students and teachers totaled $85,080.33. Read more.
