    Due To Upcoming Weather Forecast, Many Events Are Rescheduled

    JV Football vs Conway has been moved from Thursday to Tuesday. 
    Varsity Football at Conway has been moved from Friday to Wednesday. Students wear your "Black out" for the game.
    Girls Tennis at Socastee has been moved from Thursday to Wednesday. 
    Girls Volleyball at Socastee has been moved from Thursday to Monday, October 3. 
    Swim Region Meet at the Georgetown YMCA has been moved from Saturday to this Wednesday.

    HCS Weather Announcement

    On Friday, September 30, 2022, all Horry County Schools (HCS) facilities will be closed due to the forecast for inclement weather related to Hurricane Ian. However, HCS will operate on Friday with an eLearning day for all students.  School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Friday’s eLearning day. Additionally, all after-school activities for Thursday, September 29, 2022, and Friday, September 30, 2022, are cancelled. 

    All HCS employees will work remotely with the exception of non-instructional staff such as, but not limited to, nutrition services staff, bus drivers, maintenance technicians, and building services staff. These employees will not report to work but will be allowed to make up the day based upon schedules provided by their supervisors. Employees with questions regarding their work schedules should contact their respective supervisors.

    Prestige Portraits has been chosen as your official Senior Portrait Yearbook Photographer.

    Your school is requesting that every Class of 2023 Senior make an appointment with Prestige to have their portraits taken at school.  Don’t miss out on being in the yearbook!  You must be photographed by Prestige to be included in the 2022/23 yearbook..

    Homecoming Court campaigning is underway. Homecoming nominations will take place tomorrow during advisory. Please nominate your peers to represent your class as members of the Homecoming court!

    Dance Tickets
    Senior Homecoming Dance ticket pre-sale starts Sept. 28. Seniors get early access to tickets for $10, purchased through MyPaymentsPlus. Underclassmen may begin purchasing tickets for $20 starting Monday October 3. ! If you plan to bring a guest to the dance that does not attend SJH, get a guest application from Mrs. Turman or Mrs. Macheski. This must be submitted by October 24th. No unapproved guests will be admitted to the dance.

    The Homecoming dance is on Saturday, October 29, from 7-10 in the gym, and it is a Masquerade Ball. Senior Presale tickets go on sale September 28th, all other ticket sales will begin October 3. Students may bring a guest but need to submit a guest application by October 24. Applications are available from Mrs. Turman and Mrs. Macheski.

    Student Parking

    We have a few students who have not picked up parking passes. Please see Mrs. Smith in the main office to pick up your parking decal to avoid receiving a parking ticket.

    If your student needs to drive a car other than the one registered, please see Mrs. Smith for a temporary parking pass.

    Parking decals should be placed on the windshield.  Students losing decals need to purchase an additional parking decal for $10.

    Attention Sharks, September is Voter Registration Month! If you are currently 18 years or older or you will be 18 on or before Tuesday, November 8, you are eligible to register to vote. South Carolina residents with a valid drivers license or state ID can register online by October 9. You can also mail, fax, or email a voter registration form to the Horry County Voter Registration Office by October 11. Visit SCVotes.gov for more information.

    JROTC

    Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, 5 Oct
    St. James High School will be hosting the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test and Career Explorer Program on Wed, 5 Oct from 8:30-11:30.  The test is open to Sophomores (practice only), Juniors, and Seniors.

    If you are interested in enlisting in the Military, Your ASVAB scores will determine if you are qualified to join. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want.

    If you are under 18 years old, you must have parental permission.  If interested in taking the ASVAB, please register with Guidance to get an overview guide and a permission slip prior to Mon, 3 Oct.

    For questions on the ASVAB, please see Lieutenant Colonel Bartley or Sergeant First Class Currie in JROTC.

    Cross Country Results
    "The Fastest Fins on Two feet" were in a Frenzy at The Shark Tank Tuesday night. They hosted Myrtle Beach and Conway. Congratulations to the Lady Sharks as they won by recording a perfect score of 15! The Boys got edged out 35 to 37 placing second. 

    Lady Sharks finished in places 1 through 5 in the race for the perfect score of 15. Maryn Schubiger (21:38), Ava Keefer (22:00), Jazlynn Oneal (23:24), Brandy Betancourt (23:25), and Kelly Rivera Perez (25:56) all scored. 

    Logan Martinez (18:10) led the boys in a close competitive race. Ashton Williams-Robey (18:21), Caden Hightower (19:16), Hunter MacPherson (19:20), and Zach Sprechr (19:40) all scored for the Sharks. Gavin Verplanken (20:43) also broke his own 7th grade record by 33 seconds.

    Future Sharks Softball Camp
    The St. James High School softball team will have its Future Sharks Softball Camp for grades K5 through 7th on October 17th-20th from 5pm-7pm. The cost is $40 and can be paid on the first day of camp. Participants can register by clicking the link or scanning the QR code on the attached flyer.

    The VFW just announced their 2022 Scholarship program for high school students who could use help paying for college. Established in 1947, the VFW Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 64,500 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
    This year's topic is "Why is the Veteran Important?"

    The Bands of St. James are holding the Inaugural St. James Marching Band Golf Ball Drop!  Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from Mr. Capps or any band student.  There will be a guaranteed winner.  The winner will take home 20% of the profits.  We have 1000 tickets to sell, so the maximum prize could be $2000.  If we only sell 500 the prize would be $1000. The drop will take place on November 12th, 2022.

    Seniors

    Seniors interested in attending the Senior Disney Trip.  The first bus is about filled and working on filling that second bus.  If you are interested in attending the Senior Trip be sure to pay in MyPaymentsPlus and bring Mr. Hudacko your permission slip in E-248.  If you need an extra permission slip please stop by Mr. Hudacko’s room.  This trip is first come first serve so be sure to get your slip and payment in ASAP.
