Our STEM Club participates in three unique events each year. Each event has different participants, and students are encouraged to tryout for as many or as few of the events as possible. The first STEM sponsored event is the FIRST Lego League Robotics Team. The robotics team participates each December in a regional competition in the areas of Core Values, Project Design, Robot Design, and Robot Performance. If teams advance to the state tournament, the competition is held in January.
Next, the Warrior STEM Club sponsors a Rubik's Cube competition. Students compete individually against other students, from around the district to solve a 3x3 Cube in the least amount of time possible. Winners are selected based on fastest time in three categories (elementary, middle, and high). Students also compete in a team round, solving 25 Cubes as a team, in the shortest amount of time possible. Each student competes once for the individual round, and each team competes once for the team round. The event takes place in February or March, at the Horry County School District Technology Fair.
The final event sponsored by the Warrior Technology Club is the Horry County School District Technology Fair. This event is open to all students at Socastee Middle School. Students create individual or group projects that incorporate technology in an innovative way. The categories can be found on the Horry County School District web page. This event takes place at the Sheraton Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, usually in February or March.
Robotics and Rubik's teams have a maximum of ten participants, however any and all students can and are encouraged to submit projects for the Technology Fair.
