    HCS Virtual Full-Time:  Quick Facts

HCS Virtual is expanding for the 20-21 school year to provide a full-time online option for families in grades K-12. Students enrolled in the full-time program must take all courses online to be considered a full-time online student.

    • For the district’s K-8 full-time online program, the curriculum is provided by a national online curriculum provider (Florida Virtual School)  with more than 20 years of experience in online curriculum development.
    • For the district’s 9-12 full-time online program, the curriculum is a combination of courses purchased from national providers and those developed by expert HCS teachers.
    • Full-time virtual students will be served by HCS teachers who are trained in providing an engaging online teaching and learning experience for students.
    • Full-time online students will follow the typical school schedule and will be required to participate in scheduled live sessions with their teachers.  Attendance and grading practices will be similar to those required of students attending the brick-and-mortar school.
    • Parents/students must commit to at least a semester.  Requests to return to school will be considered based on space availability,

Expectations for Parents of Full-Time Online Students (ELEMENTARY)

    • Parents of students in the full-time elementary program are required to be actively involved in supporting their online student during the school day.
    • Parents of elementary-age students are more hands-on and involved in guiding students and assisting with projects or schoolwork that may be completed both on and away from the computer. This on-site supervision and support are critical in the early years, while students in older grades begin to work more independently.
    • Families must be able to print and/or scan, and upload completed assignments in the HCS Virtual system. A working printer or a way to scan/take a photo and upload assignments is required.
    • For families with elementary students, below are some questions you can ask yourself to determine if this is the right program for your student:
      • Does my student enjoy working online?
      • Is my student self-motivated to do school work?
      • Will I be willing to make sure my student stays on task, keeps pace with the assignments each day and ensures my child checks into his/her virtual classrooms as scheduled?

Expectations for Parents of Full-Time Online Students (MIDDLE/HIGH)
