    1st Semester ends this Friday, January 17th

    There will be Attendance Make up school this week for SENIORS ONLY. Please see Mrs. Tucci for information.

    Congratulations to Mrs. Hanks, Coach Hudson, Coach Jacobs and Mrs. Kanaszka for being named "Teachers of the Week" from 1/6/20 thru 1/20/20! You can see your information in the Display case on the 2nd floor across from the gym. Thank you for all you do!

    The Young Democrats have voter registration cards for anyone who is eligible to vote, but has not yet registered - during all lunches.

    Mu Alpha Theta will meet briefly on Wednesday, January 15th after school in Mrs. Stone’s Room 314

    The Leadership Class will be sponsoring a Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 28th, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. The Blood Drive will be taking place in the Auxiliary Gym. There will be a table in the Commons during all 3 lunches for the next 2 weeks(1/13-1/27). You MUST be at least 16 years of age to participate. Parents are welcome to come and donate as well. Please contact Coach Hudson with any questions

    Lady’s Soccer Preseason Workouts will resume next Tuesday, January 21st, Mondays through Thursdays 3:45-5:00 until the end of the month. Tryouts will be held February 3rd – 5th.

    There will be a Men’s and Lady’s Golf Team meeting this afternoon in the Commons at 3:30. This will be a meeting for ALL Current Golf team members and anyone who is interested in playing golf.

    Welcome Back! We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break!

     

     

    !! An Important Reminder about the Dress Code !!   If you are wearing leggings please make sure your top is at an appropriate length to cover your bottom.

     

     

    REMEMBER  

    ‘Tis the Season to be Giving”

    Let’s help our very own Brave family again this Holiday season!  Giving is contagious!!  Every 2nd block teacher will encourage their students to bring in money to purchase Angels for the SHS Angel tree (which will be located in the front of Guidance).  We encourage any form of money so check your piggy bank, under the sofa cushions, and that place in your car where you keep spare change. A handful of spare change goes a long way when we work as a team. Money donated will buy gifts and clothes for students of our Socastee family who may otherwise not have any gifts to open during the holidays.

    From November 25th until December 9th go by guidance and see Mrs. Kirkham for an Angel. The cost of an Angel is $20.00. The Angel can then be decorated and placed on the SHS Angel Tree.

     This will be a competition for our 2nd block classes!!!

    The Class that purchases the MOST Angels will not receive a pizza party this year but LUNCH FROM MON CAFÉ’!!!

    There are 3 opportunities to MakeUp those absences this week. Attendance Makeup school will be Tuesday and Thursday afternoon as well as Saturday Morning this week. See Mrs. Tucci for any questions.

    The Junior Class Ring Ceremony is tomorrow, Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30 in the Auditorium.

    All Students 16 years or older who would like to take the ASVAB (military entrance exam) may sign up in guidance through December 9th. The ASVAB will be administered on December 12th in the auxiliary gym.

    This Friday, December 6th there will be a Christmas Concert by our very own Brave Band at 7 pm in the auditorium. The concert band and the symphonic band will be playing a few songs together from movies such as The Polar Express and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The Jazz band will also be playing a few selections such as Greensleeves and It’s the Holiday Season.

    The football players and girls’ basketball players are teaming up to do a community service project. We are collecting teddy bears. These stuffed animals can be new or gently used. We will be taking them to the Grand Strand Nursing Home to spread some Christmas Spirit to its residents. You can drop off your donation with Coach Illing, Coach Lewis, Coach Shoemaker, Coach Campbell or Coach Jacobs; any time before December 17th. Thank you in advance for your help and support with this rewarding project.

    The Socastee Baseball Team, DECA & FCA will be selling tickets for our annual Toys for Tots Drive beginning Tuesday, November 26th through Tuesday, December 11th. The person with the winning ticket will win a $100 gift card to Walmart!

    Hey Juniors, how does Spring Break in Costa Rica sound?  On this trip, we will zipline through rainforests, hike around volcanoes, go white-water rafting, swim in hot springs, tour a bat cave, see exotic wildlife, eat amazing food and much more.  This will be the greatest trip of your life.  And, there are discounts for signing up early, not to mention payment plans, financial assistance, and fundraising opportunities.  But don't wait.  Swing by Room 319 and get your info from Mr. Hendrix.  The parent meeting will be next Tuesday, Dec 10th at 6 pm.

     

    News from Athletics

    Our Lady Braves will be hosting West Brunswick tonight (Monday) JV plays at 5 and Varsity at 6:15 Come out and show your support.

    Open Practices for Socastee Brave Baseball will begin Next Monday. They will be Monday through Thursday starting December 9th until December 19th. From 3:35 pm until 5:10 pm for 9th-12th graders and 4:00 pm until 5:10 pm for 7th and 8th graders at our Braves Baseball Field.

    Men’s Soccer will have conditioning this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00

    Ladies Soccer pre-season workouts will start on Monday, December 9th from 3:45 pm until 5:00 pm.  Remember -- you must have a physical on file!

    Men’s Lacrosse will have conditioning today, Wednesday and Friday from 3:45-5:00

    Ladies Lacrosse pre-season workouts will start on Monday, December 9th.  Please see Coach Campbell for any questions.

     

    PLEASE have all need physical forms submitted with Arbiter Athlete. This must be done for you to participate with any of our sports teams.

     

    Clubs and Activities

    Current Members of the National English Honor Society are required to meet in Mrs. Mitchell's room 206 at 3:20 pm on Thursday, December 5th, in regards to continued membership, inductions, and expectations.  Your presence is important.

    The Academic Team will be meeting today, Monday,  in Rm 213 after school.

    Gaming and Design Club will be meeting this afternoon, Monday,  in RM 204 from 3:30 until 4:30

    In honor of National Brownie Day (which falls on December 8th), FCCLA will be selling brownies for $1 after school on Monday, December 9th.  Our after school selling locations will be: At the main entrance in the front of the building, at the gym entrance by the football field, and on the second floor near the IB room. Please dispose of your trash when finished with your brownies. Help support FCCLA and honor National Brownie Day!

    JROTC has Game Club today, Monday and marksmanship on Tuesday.

    At the HOPE Club's next meeting we will assign Secret Santas and discuss holiday blues. We HOPE to see you there on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in Room 223 directly after school until 4:30. Want to stay in touch? Join us on Remind by texting the message @hopehere to the number 81010.

    French Club will be meeting this Thursday in Mrs. Chilson’s Room 224 after school.

    Herff Jones will be here on Wednesday for any seniors who have not ordered their senior supplies yet.

    Senior your 2nd Payment for the Senioritis Trip is Due TODAY. Please see Mrs. Thompson in the Main office.

    The Miss Socastee Pageant will be held on January 11th, you may pick up an application from the front desk, main office, Ms. Carr or Mr. Cruse’s room. All applications will be due December 16th to Mr. Cruse.

    Yearbooks are still on sale be sure to get yours before the price increases on December 31st.

    DECA meets Wednesday to go to Regionals

    News in Sports

    Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team for going 3-0 and winning the Zaxby's Tip Off Classic this past weekend and congratulations to Olivia Schuller for making the All Tournament Team. 

    Our Mens Basketball went 1 and 1 this weekend. They will be back in Georgetown this evening to compete for 3rd place.

    Boys Lacrosse will have conditioning this afternoon 3:45-5. 

     

    General News and Updates

    The Gaming & Design Club sponsored the 3rd annual Super Smash Bros Fall Brawl this past Saturday. Many came yet only one could leave the champion. Brayden Tucker showed; Daniel Bricker placed; Ty Martin won. Congratulations to Ty and all the players who participated. It was a SMASHING success!

    The Orchestra did a phenomenal job at their Concert Celebrating Autumn. Thank you to everyone who came out to support them.

    Our JV and Varsity Lady Braves Basketball teams WON their games last night at the Carvers Bay Jamboree. Congrats Ladies!!!  

    Congratulations to Brooke Rogers who finished 6th in the State Singles Tennis Tournament yesterday.

    Congratulations to the Socastee Academic Team for winning the Horry County District Championship Tournament for the third year in a row!


    The SHS Orchestra presents a “Concert Celebrating Autumn” this Friday, November 22nd, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. Admission is free please come out and support these talented Braves.


    The Powder Puff Football Game will be this Wednesday, November 20th at 4 pm in Braves Stadium. All players and Coaches need to meet today (Monday) after school. The seniors will be meeting in room 324 with Mr. Weeks and The Juniors in room 129 with Ms. Yates.


    The Fall Sports Athletic Banquet will be this Thursday, November 21st at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium and Commons.


    There will be a Girls Lacrosse meeting this afternoon (Monday) beginning at 3:30 pm until 4:00 pm in Coach Renfrow’s office.


    There will be an informational meeting for parents and players who are interested in playing baseball in the spring this afternoon (Monday) from 6 pm to 7 pm in the commons area.


    Cross Country travels to Camden tomorrow for State Championships. Join us in wishing them the Best of Luck.

    • All junior and senior students who speak and write English and another world language fluently may apply to take an exam in an effort to qualify for a bilingual seal of literacy for your South Carolina High School Diploma. Applications may be obtained from Mr. Wilson in the IB Center. The application must be completed and returned by tomorrow Tuesday, November 19.


    • If any student would like to purchase water bottles for 50 cents, come see Mrs. Gorcesky in room 138. You must have permission from your teacher to come to room 138 for purchases. This will be an ongoing fundraiser for FCCLA.


    • Please pay ALL cafeteria charges ASAP

    FINAL Senior picture retake/make-up day. School Bell Studios will be back tomorrow Tuesday, November 19 for Tux & Drape pictures only. This is for anyone who has not had their senior pictures taken. This pose will be in the yearbook. Don’t be left out. There will be a $20.00 sitting fee on picture day. If you have any concerns or questions, please see Ms. Stines or Mrs. Welch.

    News from Athletic Department This Week:

    Congrats: Brooke Rogers went 3-1 at the State Singles Championship and will continue on in the State Tennis Tournament on Thursday in Columbia. Good Luck Brooke!!!

    Saturday 11/16/19 -- The Boys Cross Country Team and also Kyla Marques will run in the State Cross Country Championship on Saturday. Good Luck Runners!!!

     

    Men’s Soccer conditioning starts today November 12 at 3:30 pm. We will meet outside of the weight room. Any questions, see Coach Miller

     

    There has been a special change to the Bravette tryout dates. Please stop by Mrs. Karnes’ Room (Room 315) by the end of the week to get more information.

     

    There will be a Girls Lacrosse meeting on Monday, November 18th from 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm in Coach Renfrow's office.

    ALSO,  proud to announce that an organizer from Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign has agreed to come to speak to us about why she is voting for Senator Warren and what we, as students can do to get involved. This meeting is open to the community. Bring your friends and family and hope to see you there!

    Seniors, make sure to stop at the yearbook table during lunch this week to pick which of your Senior Photo poses you want to be in the yearbook.  If you don’t stop by, the yearbook staff will choose the photo for you.     FINAL Senior picture retake/make-up day. School Bell Studios will be back next Tuesday, November 19 for Tux & Drape pictures only. This is for anyone who has not had their senior pictures taken.  Don’t be left out. This is the pose that will be in the yearbook.  There will be a $20.00 sitting fee on picture day.  If you have any concerns or questions, please see Ms. Stines or Mrs. Welch.

    Choose your Senior Yearbook Photo
    Starting Tuesday this week, November 12th, during lunches, seniors will have the opportunity to pick which of their senior portrait poses they would like in the yearbook. Please look for the Yearbook Staff table and stop by to choose your photo. If you don’t stop by, the yearbook staff will choose the photo for you.
