  • Socastee Attendance Census Nights!

    The Socastee Attendance Area Schools will be hosting two Census 2020 nights from 5 pm to 7 pm each night.  The first will be Tuesday, March 31st at Forestbrook Middle School, 4430 Gator Lane and the second will be Thursday, April 2nd at Socastee Middle School, 151 Esso Rd.  

    Computers will be available for families to complete the Census online.  School personnel will also be available to answer any questions about the Census.  

    Responding to the 2020 Census is an easy, safe, and important way to help provide resources for our children and the community for the next 10 years, and this year completing the Census is easier than ever.

    Remember that the U.S. Census Bureau protects your information and keeps all information it collects confidential.  It does not share any personal information it collects.

    Make It Count 2020 Socastee!  We look forward to seeing you either March 31st or April 2nd!

  • Drum Line Practices

    FOR ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:
    Drum Line practices will begin next Thursday, Mar 12 in the Band Room from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. They will be held every Tuesday and Thursday. They are not mandatory but ANY high school or middle school student who thinks they may be interested in being in Drum Line should come as often as possible. Practices will focus on basics including fundamentals, exercises, and technique. Instructors are Marco Mendoza, Lucas Atwater, and PJ McPherson. If you have any questions please send them a message on the Socastee High School Band Facebook Page and an instructor will get back with you.

    Congratulations to our DECA Members who competed this past weekend at the DECA State Competition.

    Here are a few of our winners:

    Also, our DECA Team, as a whole received 1st Place for Membership and Community Service.

     

    In General Happenings...

    This Friday will be our Last Cappuccino Day of the Year. We hope you are planning on swinging by to grab a muffin and a drink.

    Staff and Students, would you like to win a Cappuccino Day gift certificate? Stop by the library with your best guess to the following question:

    "How many books have been circulated since the first day of school through Friday, February 28?" The deadline to enter is 1:45 Thursday. Winners will be announced Friday morning!

     

    The IB Program is hosting Book Drive!  2nd Block teachers have collection bins for your donations. All books will be finding their new home at the Grand Strand Hospital. The 2nd Block Class who makes the largest donation will receive a pizza party.

     

    This year Prom will be held on Thursday, April 9th at the Kingston Resort. Tickets are on sale NOW, during all 3 lunches. Ticket prices are currently $40.00 and will start to increase as we get closer to the date.

     

    WARNING, WARNING, MEOW, MEOW, MEOW!!!!!........

    If you have not bought your ticket to see CATS next week, today is your LAST day.  We have been selling tickets every day at lunch.  Sales have been so good, that Mr. Rich gave us special approval for just one more day.  But this is it!  Today only.  We must cut off sales in order to warn your 1st and 2nd block teachers who will be missing class to see CATS the musical on March 10th.  So…. Bring your $5 to the CATS table during all three lunches today for your last chance to get a cheap ticket.  Don’t say we didn’t offer you a deal because these tickets are less than half the regular price!  $5 is less than most of you spend on Dunkin every day!  Beg, borrow, or bum some change from your friends and don’t miss out on the cheapest way to see the best show we’ve ever produced!  CATS the musical, FIVE BUCKS, today only!

     

    In the Braves' Sports World...

    The Wrestling team will meet as a team Tuesday after school in Coach Hanks' room at 3:30. Please plan to attend for important information about the future of the program.

    Congratulations to our Varsity Lady’s Lacrosse team, they defeated Myrtle Beach 19 to 2 at Monday’s game.

    Tuesday our Men’s Soccer Teams will be hosting North Myrtle Beach. JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:15. Our Lady’s Soccer Teams will be traveling to North Myrtle Beach. JV starts at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:15. Our Men’s Tennis Team will also traveling to North Myrtle Beach for a scrimmage at 5:00. And our Braves Baseball Team will be traveling to Ripken Field to play Aynor in a scrimmage this evening at 5:30.

    Congratulations to the Academic Team for top-ten finishes in their last two tournaments. Go Braves!

    Congrats to Var Girls Soccer as they went 2 & 1 in their Tournament this weekend to finish in 3rd Place.

    Congratulations to the archery team for their performance last weekend! Hannah Hall placed first in bullseye and IBO. Cody McCarty placed third in IBO.

     

    GENERAL NEWS

    Any Senior that has been accepted to CCU for the Fall of 2020 you are encouraged to apply for a scholarship. Visit your web advisor or see Ms. Gaddy.

    Juniors and Seniors, a representative from Winthrop University will be here on Thursday to speak to students, see Ms. Gaddy by Wednesday afternoon if you are interested in learning more about Winthrop.

    Socastee Brave Bots would like to invite everyone to a Science meets Rock Concert Robotics Tournament at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center this Friday and Saturday.  Free admission to see our own Socastee Robot in action!

    Monday our Men’s Lacrosse team will be hosting Myrtle Beach. JV at (5:30) & Varsity at (7:00) and Our Lady’s Lacrosse will be traveling to Myrtle Beach. JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:15. Good Luck to all of our Lacrosse Players.  UPDATE:  Congrats to our Lady's Lacrosse -- JV Girls Lacrosse defeated MB 3-2.  Varsity Girls Lacrosse defeated MB 18-2.

    We will be having a Pep Rally this Friday at the end of the day to Celebrate our Winter and Spring Sports.

    The Annual Black and Gold Athletic Dinner is this Saturday if you or someone you know is interested in tickets please see a member of our Athletic Department.

    Our Orchestra will be performing tomorrow night in their Sweetheart Concert at 7 pm in the Auditorium. Grab your sweetheart and treat them to a beautiful evening listening to our talented braves play.

    Rising 11th-grade students interested in applying to attend AAST or ATA next year should do so by Feb. 14th deadline.   There will be an open house at ATA on February 13th from 6:00 – 7:00. You must apply online with Horry County Schools. Please see Mrs. Renfrow with any questions.

    Congratulations to Mrs. Money, Coach Owen, Mr. Sauthoff and Coach Shoemaker for being chosen as Teachers of the Week from Tuesday, Feb.11th through Tuesday, Feb. 25th! Thank you for all you do!     CONGRATULATIONS to Our Academic Team. They won their 3rd Consecutive Championship in the Horry County Academic Olympics. Our Team Members are: Matthew Norton-Baker, Evan VanArsdale, Megan Lane, Mac Malambri, Sasha Bronovitskiy, Peyton Arp, and Kelana Lanoue. The team’s coach is Cynthia Lehr. We are very proud of their accomplishments.

    Spring Sports Tryouts continue Today.

    Remember: You must have the appropriate paperwork on file and cleared with planetHS/Arbiter Athlete to participate in any of our sports programs.

    Men’s golf will begin on Feb. 10 at 3:45 at Prestwick Driving Range. You must have your own transportation.

    Our Golf Tournament to support the Lady and Men’s golf teams will be this Saturday at Indigo Creek. If you are interested, please see Coach Shoemaker for details.

    Tonight, our Braves Basketball Teams will be Hosting the Conway Tigers. This is our Senior night game. JV Lady’s start at 4:30, JV Men’s 5:30, V Lady’s 7:00 and V Men’s 8:15

    This Friday our braves will be hosting the St. James Sharks. This will be our Basketball Sweetheart game. We hope you all come out to our last 2 home games to support these talents athletes.

  • Announcements for the Week of January 27th

    Congratulations to Daisy Escobar, Olivia Roberts, Jada Goff, Gabe Wilson, Willow Owens, Julianne Macanas, Alexander Powell, Benjamine Kellogg, Jacey Bushelman, and Allen Meese.  These students will be representing Socastee High School at the HCS All-County Orchestra Clinic and Concert this Friday, January 31st.  The concert will take place at Myrtle Beach High School at 6:00 pm that evening and is free to the public.  Our students would love to see fellow Braves in the audience.  We are so proud of each of you and the way you continue to represent Socastee!

    Congratulations to Chris Melendez, Jack Jones, Andrew Tomlinson, and Lucas Atwater. These four Braves have been selected to be members of the All-State Jazz Band. This is an amazing accomplishment for these students. Only 18 students from the entire state are selected for this band. We are so proud of each of you and the way you represent Socastee!

    Seniors don’t miss out on your chance to vote for Senior Superlatives for the yearbook such as Best Dressed, Class Clown and Most Likely to be President. The link to the voting form is on the Senior Class Google Classroom site. Voting closes Friday afternoon.

    Are you interested in attending the Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology next year? They will be here visiting during all 3 lunches today. Please stop by and see what they have to offer you.

    There will be a Senioritis Meeting this Wednesday in the Auditorium after morning announcements. This meeting is ONLY for Seniors who have signed up for the trip. It should not take longer than 30 minutes.

    Student applications for Quill and Scroll are due by January 30th. Any seniors who are in Quill and Scroll need to see Mrs. Urbaniak about their honor cords and ceremony.

    News from Athletics

    Archery will meet tomorrow, TUESDAY, 2nd floor of the Gym at 3:30 pm. Please make every effort to be there on time. Please come by Dr. McKee’s room for your permission form for February.

    January 31st will be the last day to fill out Track and Field forms on google docs. The season starts on February 3rd at 3:45 pm.  Any questions see Coach Van in room 114.

    Braves Softball Try-outs will start on Monday, February 3rd, please see Coach Hodge if you have any questions.

    Ladies Lacrosse will have workouts today 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Lacrosse tryouts will be February 3rd, 4th, and 5th from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm on the front field.

    Men’s Lacrosse workouts will be today, Wednesday and Friday from 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm.  Lacrosse Tryouts will be February 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  Contact Coach Fox for any questions.

    Lady’s Soccer will have workouts this week, today through Thursday 3:45 pm - 5:00 pm. Tryouts will be February 3rd through the 5th.

    Our Wrestling team will be hosting Carolina Forest tomorrow night at 6

    Congratulations to our Game Day Cheerleaders. They traveled to USC Aiken on Saturday and Competed in the South Carolina High School League’s Game Day Invitational. Our ladies competed in 3 categories and made it to finals. They WON Best of the Crowd Leading Category and finished 2nd in the State Overall in the 5A Division. We are so proud of these 20 ladies and their coaches.

    The Young Democrats have voter registration cards for anyone who is eligible to vote, but has not yet registered - during all lunches.

    Mu Alpha Theta will meet briefly on Wednesday, January 15th after school in Mrs. Stone’s Room 314

    The Leadership Class will be sponsoring a Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 28th, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. The Blood Drive will be taking place in the Auxiliary Gym. There will be a table in the Commons during all 3 lunches for the next 2 weeks(1/13-1/27). You MUST be at least 16 years of age to participate. Parents are welcome to come and donate as well. Please contact Coach Hudson with any questions

    Lady’s Soccer Preseason Workouts will resume next Tuesday, January 21st, Mondays through Thursdays 3:45-5:00 until the end of the month. Tryouts will be held February 3rd – 5th.

    There will be a Men’s and Lady’s Golf Team meeting this afternoon in the Commons at 3:30. This will be a meeting for ALL Current Golf team members and anyone who is interested in playing golf.
