• The Summer Careers Academy is presented by the South Carolina AHEC in collaboration with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Colleges of Dental Medicine, Health Professions, Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy and MUSC Library. The Academy is a one-week summer program designed to help underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students prepare for entry into health professions programs within South Carolina.  This program is a one-week experience, wherein high school students (rising 9th graders through graduating seniors) will have the opportunity to explore the different career options in the field of healthcare. Students in this program will learn through hands-on career labs, and they will spend a portion of each day observing live health professions and patient care in up to 5 different healthcare fields. Student participants will be counseled concerning career and college readiness from career specialists and healthcare professionals and gain a better understanding of the wide variety of healthcare professions as career options. In this 40-hour program, participants will receive a certificate verifying participation.
