• HCS NEW TEACHER ACADEMY 2023

     

    Welcome to Horry County Schools!

    We are glad you have chosen to teach in our school system, and we are eager to help you get ready for your students.  

    New Teacher Academy is specifically designed as an opportunity for brand new teachers as well as teachers who are new to Horry County Schools.  Attendance at New Teacher Academy is not required, but is highly recommended.  Because this event takes place prior to the contracted school year, educators, who are not on contract, will receive a stipend for attending sessions.

    The dates and topics covered for each day are listed below.  If you have questions about whether or not you should attend, please communicate with your principal or supervisor. It is recommended that you attend all four days.  If there are special circumstances or schedule conflicts that limit participation, please discuss with your principal or supervisor.

    New Teacher Academy is a four-day event on the following dates:

    • Day 1:   July 31, 2023 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

    • HCS Welcome

    • Teacher Panelists

    • Induction Teacher Breakout Sessions

    • SCTS Mandatory Training for Experienced Teachers New to Horry County

     

    • Day 2:  August 1, 2023 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

    • School Based Professional Development

    • Breakout Sessions for Specialized Training 

    • Day 3:  August 8, 2023 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

    • Specialized Professional Development for Specific Content Areas 

    • Mandatory District Professional Development (for example, ESOL Training for Core Content Teachers)

     

    • Day 4:  August 9, 2023 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

    • Specialized Professional Development for Specific Content Areas 

    • Mandatory District Professional Development  (for example, ESOL Training for Core Content Teachers)

    Registration for New Teacher Academy is required
    Please use the link provided to you by HR to register.

     

    All teachers attending New Teacher Academy should pick up their assigned laptop and docking station during the week of July 24th  - July 27th  between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm from the technology department located in Building C at the District Office.If you have specific questions about the pick-up process for devices, please contact Missy Johnson (Mjohnson006@horrycountyschools.net.).  Devices will be needed for New Teacher Academy.
