In September of 2019, several high schools were invited to submit artworks to display at the Long Bay Symphony's performance of Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. The Academy Art Majors created works based on two sections of the composition: "Gnomus (The Gnome)", which includes fantasy elements and dramatic scoring, and "Samuel Goldenberg and Schmuyle", which depicts a conversation between a rich man and a poor man. We explored ideas of metaphor, dialogue, inequality, balance, and contrast in these works. Ultimately two were selected to be displayed:
Zoe Miller, Money Doesn't Grow in Thought
Displayed alongside "Gnomus"
Carlecia Massey, The Whimsical Serenade
Displayed alongside "Samuel Goldenberg and Schmuyle"
