• AAST’s Academic Accomplishments and Recognitions

      • 100% of the AAST senior class earned College or Career Ready status as defined by the SC Department of Education. 88% of AAST seniors earned both College Ready and Career Ready status.
      • Pre-Med students achieved a pass rate of 91% on the National Health Science Assessment 2019.
      • 83% of CATE completers earned industry credentials or certifications.
      • AAST seniors exceed the 2019 national mean composite score with an 1196 average for the SAT.
      • In 2018 -2019 AAST students achieved a 100% pass rate for the English 1 End-of-Course (EOC) exams; 100% pass rate for the Biology EOC; 98% pass rate for the US History EOC.
      • AAST maintained 81% mean pass rate for all Advanced Placement exams.
      • AAST seniors exceed the 2019 state average with a 25.4 average for the ACT.
      • The AAST CyberPatriot Team, in its inaugural year at AAST, took 4th place in the 2019 Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition at Trident Technical College in Charleston and this fall advanced to the 3rd round of competition.
      • AAST theatre student, Brynn Hardman, won the 2018-2019 regional and state Poetry Out Loud competition.
      • AAST Art Program earned recognition and awards in events around the region. Students entered work in juried competitions at Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum, Seacoast Art Gallery, HCS Tech Fair, and Art Fields, Jr. 
      • The AAST Technology Student Association (TSA) competed in the South Carolina TSA competition in April. The students brought home the title of State Champions.
      • The Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter at AAST is recognized at both the state and national levels for their talents and achievements.
      • The AAST SkillsUSA chapter competed in the SC SkillsUSA competition earning three 1st place awards.
      • AAST robotics team, Aluminum Assault Team 1287, finished among the top teams at the 2019 Palmetto First Robotics competition. Bucky Sellers, Pre-Engineering instructor, recognized as the Top Volunteer at the event.
      • AAST Entertainment Technology students won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the 2019 Horry County Historical Sites and Structures Film Competition. 
      • Wanda Randall, AAST guidance counselor, was named the Waccamaw Region CTE Counselor of the Year.
      • Nathan Lowe, Pre-Med Major, was named the Waccamaw Region Worked Based Learning Student of the Year.
      • Rebekah Ceron was awarded the 2019 SC Foreign Language Teachers Association Teacher of Promise Award.
      • AAST competed in the HCS Technology Fair and earned several 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards. 
      • Mindi Penn and Lesley Etherson earned 1st place at the HCS Technology Fair in the teacher category.
      • Entertainment Technology students Peyton Heliene and Liam Conley earned 1st place honors in the South Carolina Young Filmmakers competition.
      • English teacher, Terry Filippo was named as a Top 5 finalist for the 2019 HCS Teacher of the Year.
      • Social Studies teacher, Evan Sellers, named 2018-19 American Geographical Society Teacher Fellow.
      • AP Human Geography students won Highest Quality Contribution in the Great County Mapping Challenge.
      • AP Environmental Science students participated in Seeds to Shoreline.
      • AAST We the People team won the 2019-20 state competition and will compete at Nationals in April.
      • Lou Layton, AAST theatre teacher, has been named the 2019 Outstanding SC Theatre Teacher of the year.
