• Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-21 School Year

     If your child attended the early childhood special education (ECSE) or child development (CD) program/s during the 2019-20 school year, they are considered a returning student and do not have to complete this pre-registration process.  You will simply need to register them on May 4 as a returning student.  

    Registration for kindergarten will be available beginning April 21, 2020.  Phase one of kindergarten registration includes submitting information and required documentation. There are two ways to complete phase one of kindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year, online, and through paper registration forms.

    Preparing for Kindergarten Registration

    1. Gather the required documents.

      • Child’s legal birth certificate
      • Child’s shot record
      • Child's Medicaid card (if applicable)
      • Proof of residency (utility bill, rental or lease agreement). 
      • The child’s social security card is requested, but not required. 

    2. Identify the elementary or early childhood school in your attendance area using the HCS School Finder tool. 

    Completing Online Forms for Kindergarten Registration

    The online registration form allows you to enter and submit all information electronically.  Submitting your information online will expedite processing and is strongly encouraged.  

    1. Create and/or log in to your Google Gmail account to access the online application.

    2. Prepare digital copies of the required documents. 
      • Label each item you plan to upload with your child’s name.
      • Scan the documents or take a picture with your phone.
      • Save the digital copies to your computer or other device.

    3. Choose your attendance area school from the list below and click the application link.

    4. Complete the online kindergarten registration form.

      • Type your responses directly into the online form.
      • Upload the required documents as directed in specific sections.
      • Submit the registration form.

    5. Monitor your email for instructions from your school regarding phase two of kindergarten registration.

  • Completing Paper Forms for Kindergarten Registration 

    Paper registration forms will be available outside the front door of the elementary school in your attendance area Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. beginning April 21, 2020. Paper applications and copies of required documentation may be mailed back to the school in your attendance area using the postage-paid envelope provided with the paper application.  

    1. Make a copy of the required documents.

      • Child’s legal birth certificate
      • Child’s shot record
      • Child's Medicaid card or parents’ proof of income (2019 income tax return)
      • Proof of residency (utility bill, rental or lease agreement). 
      • The child’s social security card is requested, but not required. 

    1. Pick up a paper registration form and postage-paid return envelope at your attendance area school. 

    2. Complete the paper registration.

    3. Mail the application and copies of required documents to the elementary school in your attendance area.

    4. Monitor your email for instructions from your school regarding phase two of kindergarten registration.
