Honors and Awards Checklist
SC High School Diploma Requirements
The South Carolina General Assembly has established the requirement for a high school diploma in South Carolina at 24 credits.
A student must earn a total of 24 units off credit distributed as follows:
· English/Language Arts - 4 Units
· U.S. History and Constitution - 1 Unit
· Economics (1/2 Unit), Government (1/2 Unit) - 1 Unit
· Other Social Studies - 1 Unit
· Mathematics - 4 Units
· Science - 3 Units
· Physical Education or ROTC - 1 Unit
· Computer Science (Including Keyboarding) - 1 Unit
· Foreign Language or Occupational Education - 1 Unit
· Electives - 7 Units
Total 24 Units
Horry County Schools Honor Graduates (GPA based on SC UGP)
Summa Cum Laude Magna Cum Laude Cum Laude
GPA = or > 4.75 GPA = or > 4.250 but < 4.75 GPA = > 3.75 but < 4.250
South Carolina State Scholarships
Palmetto Fellows Scholarship
· GPA = or > 3.5 SC UGP
· SAT = or > 1200 (EBRW+M) or ACT Composite = or > 27
· Rank in top 6% of class at end of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Year
OR
· GPA = or > 4.0
· SAT 1400 (V+M) or ACT composite 32
· Valued at $6,700 freshman year. Increases sophomore year; amount depends on major
·LIFE Scholarship
Must meet 2 of the following 3 criteria at the end of the senior year with their final transcript:
· GPA = or > 3.0 on SC UGP (This is the only criteria needed to use LIFE at a 2 year school)
· Rank in top 30% of class
· SAT = or > 1100 (EBRW+M) or ACT Composite = or > 24
· Valued at $5,000 freshman year. May increase to $7,500 if major is math or science
HOPE Scholarship
· 3.0 GPA
· One time award of $2,800. If student takes 30 credit hours and maintains a B average freshman year, the award will increase to LIFE their sophomore year.
