High School Summer School Options

Horry County Schools students will have the opportunity to participate in initial credit and credit recovery courses in the summer of 2022. Students will have three options to access coursework virtually depending on their needs as outlined below. Please note that all courses may not be available.
High School Summer Option

Option 1: HCS Virtual Initial Credit Courses
- Students in grades 9-12 may enroll in HCS Virtual for initial credit classes. If HCS Virtual is not offering a needed initial credit class, students may select the course through VirtualSC if it is being offered.
- Students are reminded that online course offerings are limited during the short summer term.

HCS Virtual Program Initial Credit Requirements and Registration:
- Students must contact their guidance counselor prior to attempting summer online enrollment.
Important Notes:
- STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO TAKE A COURSE OUTSIDE OF AN HCS SPONSORED PROGRAM AND INTEND TO POST THE GRADE ON THE HCS TRANSCRIPT, MUST HAVE PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE BASE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE COURSE.
- Courses for consideration must be taken from an accredited institution.

2022 Summer School Diploma Issuance Information:
- Students who complete graduation requirements during the summer will be eligible to participate in a summer graduation ceremony scheduled at their base high school. Students should contact their base school counselor or principal for more details.

Option 2: Virtual SC Initial Credit and Credit Recovery Courses
- Students in grades 9 –12 may enroll in initial credit or credit recovery classes through VirtualSC. To sign up for VirtualSC, students should contact their school guidance counselor prior to enrolling online at https://VirtualSC.org/
- Students are reminded that online course offerings are limited during the short summer term and are first-come, first-serve basis due to the limited allotted enrollment.
- Students are required to take final exams in person at a designated site.

Option 3: HCS Virtual Credit Recovery Option
- Credit recovery will be offered by Horry County Schools teachers for students in grades 9-12 who need to recover credit. (Maximum is 2 Credits)
- Students will complete their credit recovery course work via Edgenuity digital lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Students will participate virtually in this opportunity.
- Students must be eligible for credit recovery based on the HCS credit recovery guidelines.

- Final Date for Registration: June 7, 2022
- Students who are unable to enroll in these courses will be enrolled in credit recovery at their base high schools in the fall.

Horry County Schools Credit Recovery Summer School Requirements and Registration:
- Students must contact their guidance counselor prior to attempting any summer online enrollment.
- Core academic courses in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies will be available for students in grades 9-12.
- Guidance contacts will verify student eligibility to participate in credit recovery coursework.

- STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO TAKE A COURSE OUTSIDE OF AN HCS-SPONSORED PROGRAM AND INTEND TO POST THE GRADE ON THE HCS TRANSCRIPT, MUST HAVE PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE BASE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE COURSE.
- Courses for consideration must be taken from an accredited institution.
Driver Education: One section of driver education will be offered at Conway High School, provided that a sufficient number of students enroll.
- Requirements: Students must be at least 15 years or older and must possess an S.C. driver’s permit prior to the driving portion of the course. Students will be required to drive in the driver’s education car for one full day after the classroom phase is completed. This will be scheduled with the instructor at a time that is convenient for the student and the instructor.
- Hours/Cost: Monday through Thursday, from 7:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., for the first three weeks of summer school. The instructor may establish caps on the number of students that he/she can serve each week. Course cost is $250.00 for in-district students and $350.00 for out-of-district students.
