Academic Team

The Academic Team engages in competitions with the other district high schools. The structure of the competition is questions and answers using a buzzer system that recognizes the first responses. Questions posed included every aspect of academia (literature, history, science, mathematics) in addition to sports, popular culture, and the arts and humanities.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a trivia competition for students based on a selection of predetermined books.  We read and practice at the school and then participate in a district-wide competition in the Spring.  We have a great time discussing books, quizzing each other, and snacking while we work!

How to Join

In the fall, speak to Mrs. Neafsey or Mrs. Chestnut in the Library Learning Commons.  Everyone is welcome!

Birding and Wildlife Photography Adventure Club

Our goal is to teach students how to identify and photograph our local bird species and to give them space to explore and feel connected to the natural world. We want to provide students with a lifetime activity that will help them make lifetime friendships.

Distributed Education Clubs of America (DECA)

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

How to Join

• Have a sincere interest in business, marketing, hospitality, and/or digital communication careers

• Complete at least one CTE course within your years of membership

• Have and maintain a HS GPA of at least 2.5

• No major discipline history

• Pay all necessary dues each school year

Typical Activities

DECA’s evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)

To enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community.

How to Join

HOSA welcomes new members at any time.  All you need to do is contact one of the advisors and attend a meeting. You can join officially for $25 (mypaymentsplus.com) or simply be a non-official school member and participate within our community. Typical Activities

In the fall we like to sponsor fundraisers for the local community (foodbank, students in need of hygiene products, etc.) We also like to reach out to local healthcare workers and nursing homes to offer support, cheer, and gratitude.

International Club

International Club is designed to promote cultural awareness throughout the MBHS community.

Typical Activities:

Activities include: Homecoming celebrations, fundraising, community service, and an international food fest. This club exists to allow students with similar interests an opportunity to gather and to empower students with leadership opportunities to plan club and school events.

Student Council

The SCA strives to establish a school community through leadership, communication, and school spirit.  Our goal is to spark a desire in students and staff to become active in everything Myrtle Beach High School has to offer.

How to Join

Elections for grades 10-12 are in May for the following school year.  9th-  elections will be in early September.  See Mrs. Corrie for more information.

Eligibility Requirements:

• 3.0 GPA or higher

• No major discipline issues

• No attendance issues

• Executive Council Members must have served one year as a class representative.

Young Life Club is a Christian Ministry that reaches out to middle school, high school and college students in all 50 of the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.

Our Mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.

Meeting - first Thursday of every month at 7:30 a.m. (before school) in the Media Center.

Activities - bible study, fellowship with new friends and community service projects.
