PMECS
PMECS (Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Science) is a partnership between the educators and businesses to provide gifted minority students academic enrichment in the career areas of engineering and computer science. Formed in 1977, PMECS has been conducting annual summer workshops for high school students since 1978. Horry County has successfully placed several students from various schools to attend the annual PMECS workshops in the past years. Students who attend all 4 PMECS workshops (rising 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades) may be eligible to apply for a college scholarship if the student majors in a STEM related major.
Please note that the PMECS workshops are only for rising 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders and are held at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Minimum Selection Criteria:
- Student must be a minority (African American, Native American or Hispanic)
- Student must be a rising high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
- Student must have a minimum overall (B) grade-point average (a few exceptions will be made for underachievers extremely high potential)
NOTE: Limited spots available for “new applicant” upperclassmen (rising sophomores, juniors and seniors). Returning students get 1st priority for slots for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Apply to attend one of two 2023 Summer workshops:
June 12 - June 16
Residential rising 10th - 12th graders will check in on June 11.
Residential rising 9th graders and all commuters will check in on June 12.June 26 - June 30

The due date for completed applications is April 14, 2023 for all “new students.” Limited financial aid is available. To apply for financial assistance, the guardian must submit a written request via regular mail or email (PMECS@ATT.NET).
