• Message From Our Principal

Welcome to Black Water Middle School! It is truly an honor to serve as principal of such a wonderful school.   Black Water Middle is a fine-arts focused school that serves a diverse learning community of 690 students in grades 6-8. Our school is helping all students develop life skills and career characteristics by “Achieving Greatness” in academics, the arts and athletics. Black Water was named to honor the majestic Waccamaw River, which is described as a “black water” river because of the tannins released in the water from the Cyprus trees and roots that surround the river. The Waccamaw has been a life-line for the residents of Horry County and creates an inviting habitat for the black bear, which is our school mascot.   Our school has a historic heritage that reflects strength, character, and pride.

Black Water Middle is a welcoming center focused on exceptional teaching and learning. We offer a strong academic program that offers students the opportunity to earn high school credit in Algebra I, Geometry, English I, Digital Literacy and Google Basics. We believe it is critical to develop world class skills and world class knowledge, and are fortunate to have a personalized digital platform in a 1:1 technological learning environment. Black Water Middle excels in the fine arts and exclusively offers dance education and media arts education, in addition to our fine band, chorus, orchestra and visual arts programs.

The students are the purpose of our work! Our focus this year is EMPOWERMENT FOR IMPACT! We are excited for the upcoming school year, and value your support and investment in our school. Join us as we “Achieve Greatness” for every student, every day in every classroom to EMPOWER students to make an IMPACT in the world!

    Achieving Greatness,

    Candace Lane
