River Oaks, Seaside, and Burgess Elementary Schools were recognized at Horry County's "Keeping Horry County Beautiful" award ceremony at the McCown Auditorium in Conway on November 29, 2016. Each school received the Outstanding School Award for their efforts in recycling, composting, gardening and overall sustainability.
