    The School Improvement Council for Burgess Elementary School wants to share this School Summary Report with parents and community members who are interested in our school. The report reviews the progress made towards increasing student achievement and other accomplishments made during this school year.     Performance Progress Report 

    In March 2009, the Annual School Report Card was sent home with every student. This report card explained our Spring 2008 Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT) data. Our absolute rating was Good and our growth rating was also Good.  PACT measures mastery of grade level achievement standards. Our percentage results for Spring 2008 are as follows:

    A comparison of Spring 2008 results to Spring 2007 results shows an increase in the percentage of students scoring proficient and advanced in all grade levels in all subjects. The comparison is as follows:

    Celebrate With Us

    ·Burgess Elementary School was awarded the South Carolina Palmetto Silver Award for outstanding student academic performance. (one of only 3 elementary schools in Horry County Schools recognized for student academic performance)

    ·Burgess Elementary School was awarded the South Carolina Palmetto Silver Award for excellent results in closing the achievement gap.

    ·Burgess Elementary School was awarded the Horry County Schools Silver Award for outstanding student performance on the State Report Card.

    ·Burgess Elementary School was awarded an $8000 grant from Wal Mart to establish a rain garden.

    ·Cindy Dawsey was selected as the Teacher of the Year for Burgess Elementary School and as a top five finalist for the Horry County Schools District Teacher of the Year.

    ·Ethan Atkinson was the Soil and Water Conservation Writing Contest winner.

    ·Sidney Baltenbach was the Youth Leadership Award winner.

    ·Alex Gail was the Time Warner Cable Hero Highlights recipient.

    ·Mallorie Garvey was the Spelling Bee Champion.

    ·Kyler Hamm won the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Splash's Student All-Star Essay Contest at the elementary level for the district.

    ·Dylan Howell was a district winner of the Young Writer’s Conference.

    ·Canyon Negri was the State Superintendant’s Writing Contest winner.
