Course Description and Expectations
AVID Curriculum
Students in the AVID Elective concentrate on WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). Teachers at CHS correlate lesson plans with AVID strategies that often include WICOR work taught in the AVID elective.

- Collaboration (Socractic seminars, projects)
- Binder checks
- Notetaking
- Organizational skills
- Public speaking
- Scholarship & Financial Aid
- ACT/SAT/EOC/AP Test Prep
- College/Career Planning
Requirements:
- Binder (2 1/2 or 3 in.- 3 ring)
- Dividers (1 for each class)
- Paper (loose-leaf, college-ruled)
- Planner (calendar)
- Pencils/pens
- Zipper pouch (supply case)
- Graphing Calculator (optional)
Expectations:
Students are selected to be a part of Conway High School AVID. Students are expected to demonstrate maturity, integrity, responsibility, and respect for themselves and others.
Academic Expectations: Students are expected to maintain at minimum a 2.5 GPA at the end of each grading period with the expectation of moving closer to 3.0 by the following period.
Students are expected to complete homework, classwork, make use of their planner, communicate regularly with teachers about grades and work, ask relevant questions, and stay current with digital assignments.
Behavioral Expectations: Students are expected to demonstrate a positive and mature attitude. Students are expected to respect all adults, other students and themselves. Students are expected to act with integrity and honesty and to take responsibility for their actions, words and deeds. Students are to serve as leaders and models at school and in the community.
