• Growing in Guidance

    The mission of our Guidance and Counseling Program is to offer the counseling, consultation, coordination or referral services to help each child discover their own unique abilities and interests; to explore individual possibilities, to build stronger relationships with friends and family, to be personally strong and safe, and to be a productive and efficient learner in the present and citizen in the future.

    As a school counselor, I offer the counseling, consultation, coordination or referral services to help each child

    As with other educators, I must follow the state standards. I will be teaching approximately 16 classroom guidance lessons for your child this year. 

    Guidance and counseling standards focus on three components:  

    • learning to learn 
    • learning to work
    • learning to live

    In addition, I will be working with small groups of students and individual students when needed. As a school counselor, my role focuses on prevention and early intervention with personal, social, or emotional issues that naturally arrive in life.  The following are just a few examples of how I can help support your child.  I will work with children who are experiencing grief due to the loss or absence of a loved one.  I will also work with students who are going through family changes or hardships.  I am here to teach social skills, friendships skills, listening skills, or study skills to students who need that service.  I will work to intervene if a student’s choices are interrupting the learning within the classroom or if a problem needs to be solved. I am also here to just listen if children just need someone to talk to or need encouragement. 

    Students are taught that I have 5 very special jobs.

    3.  I can make you feel better.
    4.  I can give you the gift of great ideas.
    5.  We can learn and have some fun.
