AP Capstone Program
AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that helps you stand out in the college admission process by developing the critical skills needed to succeed in college and in life. Two new courses– AP Seminar and AP Research_ allow you to immerse yourself in topics that matter to you while developing analytic, research, problem-solving, and communication skills that colleges seek in their applicants. This challenging program helps you deepen your passion for learning, gives you greater confidence in your academic skills, and provides a broader perspective on your world.
Students will take AP Seminar in the 9th grade, followed by AP Research in the 11th grade. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research Exams and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing will receive the AP Capstone Diploma. Alternatively, the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, signifying attainment of college-level academic and research skills, is awarded for scores of 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research Exams only.
AP International Diploma
The AP International Diploma (APID) is a globally recognized certificate awarded to students who display exceptional achievement across a variety of disciplines. APID certifies outstanding academic excellence with a global perspective. To receive this diploma, students must take AP Spanish Language and Culture and meet the requirements in four other AP content areas.
We are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the AP Academy. This is an opportunity for students to focus on an AP program of study. This rigorous program requires that students commit to AP classes and follow the rules of Myrtle Beach High and Horry County Schools. Students enrolled in this program must be a consistent and dedicated learner. This program requires a commitment from students and parents because of the high expectations and level of rigor.
Why should you be in the Advanced Placement Academy?
- If you are highly interested and academically motivated to take AP classes
- Willing to commit to following the AP course offered at MBHS
- If you have an interest in being a College Board AP Scholar (3 APs with a score of 3 or higher)
- If you want to take rigorous courses to better prepare you for college
- AP courses are designed to require a deep interest in the topic, please focus on the courses you are interested in as this is a fast paced, challenging course.
Students who successfully complete the requirements of the AP Academy will receive a certificate upon graduation. Students whose college of choice awards them credit for their score on the AP exam will be able to exempt those course in college. Enrichment activities will be planned to further assist students as they develop further into the AP Academy.
