Career and Technology Education

  •

The goal of  Career and Technology Education is to provide students with a selection of career based coursework that exposes them to a variety of careers. The teachers are devoted to guiding students along the career path of their choice.

Students choose a career path/major and then select courses that correspond to their choice. They are given opportunities to join student organizations and participate in work-based learning related to their career choice. In addition, the Career and Technology Department has an articulation agreement with Horry Georgetown Technical College that gives students the opportunity to be exempt from some courses at HGTC by taking them at MBHS.

Currently, MBHS offers courses within the following career clusters:

    • Health Science – Health Science 1, 2 and 3, Medical Terminology, Sports Medicine 1 and 2, Sports Medicine Work Based and Health Science Work Based.
    • Business – IBA 1, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Fundamentals of Business, Marketing and Finance, and Professional and Leadership Development..
    • Architecture and Construction – Mechanical Design 1 and 2, Architectural Design 1 and 2.

The CATE department also sponsors three different student organizations: Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) to help students get involved in their various areas of interest. If you are interested in joining any of these organizations please ask your CATE teacher!
