School begins promptly at 8:20 a.m. and dismissal is at 3:30 p.m. Your child is tardy if he/she arrives after 8:20 a.m. The parent/guardian that is dropping the student off should walk into school and sign the student in. Please do not just drop off and leave.
2nd tardy=Warning and Parent Contact
5th tardy=Referral to Administration and Detention
6th tardy=Referral to Administration and Suspension will be determined
Please be aware of "Reverse Tardies". A Reverse Tardy occurs when a student is checked out of school early and the same consequences apply (as above). If you have any questions regarding attendance, please contact Sherry Turner at 903-8422.
We take Period Attendance, which means we take attendance 8 times per day. This means that if a student misses the first few classes of each period and arrive late, the student has absences towards their 10 allowed for the year in those morning classes. The same applies for the afternoon classes if your student signs out early. A student must attend at least half of the class period in order to get credit for attending the class. Upon 3 consecutive or 5 total absences an attempt will be made by the Attendance Clerk to hold a meeting to come up with a plan to ensure the student is successful with attendance and will not miss over the allowed amount. Should this meeting have to be held, an AIP (Attendance Intervention Plan) will be placed for one full calendar year and the Attendance Clerk will monitor the student's attendance closely and refer to the district, if necessary. Please note that any absence that is lawful will not be referred. Lawful includes medical, dental, bereavement, judicial, principal approved.
If a student is absent and a parent needs to request homework, please email the teachers. Please allow 24 hours for the assignments to be picked up at the front desk. Teachers' email addresses will be sent home at the beginning of the school year as well as on the web and if you have a question, you may call 903-8420 and obtain the addresses. Please save these emails for all future contact.
If a student needs to be dismissed early, we ask that a note be sent with the student and turned into the front office, first thing in the morning. The student will be given a pass to leave the classroom at the appointed time. This helps us lessen class interruptions by reducing class calls and disrupting instructional time.
All bus routes and times can be found at www.horrycountyschools.net, Parent Resources, Transportation link. Please take a look at this and inform your student of their bus route and bus number prior to arriving on the first day of school. Due to over-crowding, we ask your cooperation with limiting bus changes to emergencies only. All students need to ride their assigned bus. In case of an emergency, parents must provide a written note and then contact the school and speak with the front office staff to verify the note. Students will not be permitted to ride an alternate bus without written, verified permission and if there is sufficient space on the requested bus.
Per Horry County School District's Policies and Procedures, students may not carry any medications, prescription or over the counter with them at school or on the bus. Possession of medications will be handled as a discipline issue. Any medications that need to be taken during the school day must be brought in by a parent or guardian in the original packaging, and the appropriate form must be filled out with the school nurse. Applications are needed, per child, per medication. Epi-pens, inhalers and insulin may be carried with the student only if the self-administration packet is filled out by the Parent, Physician, and Student. The nurse may be reached at her direct line at 903-8433.
Please provide the front office with any changes in address, phone numbers, email addresses or pick-up contacts. Changes of address must be made in writing and be dropped off with Proof of Residency.

Powerschool Parent Portal
All parents need to sign up for their Powerschool access. Please contact Sherry Turner at 903-8422 if you have any questions. Students will be registered for upcoming school year using your Powerschool log in. This is also a great way to stay in contact with your child's teachers, to see grades, and assignments that are due, etc. Attendance may also be monitored through Powerschool Parent Portal.
Volunteers are always welcome at OBMS. If you are planning to chaperone a field trip or help in any capacity in our school, you must fill out a volunteer form. These can be found at www.horrycountyschools.net/parent resources/volunteers. Please print and fill out the application and return to Pam Fehlig in the front office. A SLED check must be conducted so please allow 5 to 7 days for approval.
