In order to teach compassion and service towards others, all grade levels at SCE participate in Service Learning Projects throughout the year. This inspires our children to always be willing to help others in our community.
Child Development and Preschool:
These classes will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable foods for Community Counts Charities. This is to help our local families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.
This grade level is adopting the Conway Manor. Teachers and students will make Fall decorations, as well as Christmas decorations and ornaments to help the manor look festive for the holidays. They will also visit the residents of Conway Manor to sing Christmas Carols. For Valentine’s Day the students will make Valentines and decorations for the residents to put up throughout their building. Kindergarteners will also make pinecone bird feeders for the residents to enjoy in the spring.
First Grade students are being stewards of our community. They are holding a Book Drive to collect gently used children's and young adult books to donate to Freedom Readers of Horry County. Both children and young adults will have the opportunity to bring the pleasure and enjoyment of reading into their homes. Together we will create a reading community with the availability of books for children and young adults. Also, Freedom Readers tutors children in our community in reading and the books we collect will be available to the students they work with during their tutoring program.
Second graders will be holding a Sock Drive to collect new socks to donate to the City of Conway Police Department. The socks will be given out as needed. Second Grade has held the Sock Drive for several years. This year's drive will be held October 2-27, 2023.
They will also be holding an Animal Care Drive to collect gently used towels, blankets, sheets, toys, food, and other pet care items to donate to a local animal hospital or local animal shelter.
Students and teachers will be working with our local electric companies. They will be collecting supplies to create Severe Weather Bags. They will be inviting Horry Electric to come and talk with the students about electricity. They will also be inviting the lineman in for a
Fourth Grade has partnered with the Horry County Solid Waste Authority for another year of Talking Trash! Their goal is to help bring awareness to the amount of waste materials that can be recycled rather than disposed of in a landfill.
The Fifth Grade Team will be working to help CAP (Churches Assisting People). They will collect hygiene and essential needs products for those in need. Fifth grade will also team up with third grade by hosting a Blood Drive.
The SPED team will host a Breakfast for Veterans to honor our local veterans. This will be held in the SCE Cafeteria on November 9, 2023. The kids will make posters for the veterans and ask students in all grade levels to make cards for them, too.
This team will also hold an Animal Supply Drive to collect needed supplies for the local animal shelter.
