Community Partnerships (2024)

  • HTC sponsored the HCS Middle School Basketball Championship. Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from all 13 HCS middle schools competed. North Myrtle Beach Middle won the boys' tournament, and Ocean Bay Middle won the girls’.
  • Through a collaborative partnership with  Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Apprenticeship Carolina, and Partnership Grand Strand, HCS sponsored the first Build Something Amazing event, a career exploration experience for 12th graders interested in skilled trades. Faculty from select HGTC programs and local businesses shared insights about skilled labor opportunities with students.
  • Local hospitals sent representatives from various health science career fields to the annual HCS Health Science Career Fair, where they discussed the specifics of their professions with approximately 300 11th and 12th graders.
  • United Way of Horry County hosted several reading events in schools, including Caring for Kindergartners and United to Read.
  • HCS partnered with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Partnership Grand Strand to host the annual Summer Job Fair for high school students at Myrtle Beach High School. The fair included approximately 50 local businesses, and the event provided on-site job interviews and on-the-spot hiring for many positions.
  • Over 100 local business owners, public figures, community leaders, and more served as judges for the 15th annual HCS Technology Fair. Santee Cooper and HTC provided the fair with critical financial and technical support, respectively, and an education partnership with Dell allowed the fair’s esports competition to expand significantly.
  • Over 50 public figures and business leaders from across the county participated in our Principal for a Day event. This event allowed them to see what opportunities are available for students in our schools and what educational leadership looks like. It also allowed HCS principals to learn leadership strategies from outside of education and how to better prepare students for life after school.
  • Partnership Grand Strand collaborated with HCS to hold a Career Readiness Showcase, in which local business and industry leaders participate in a five-month program showcasing the diverse Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at each of our high schools. This program aims to help students learn about opportunities in the local workforce, introduce our business leaders to our CTE programs, and identify partnership opportunities for student shadowing, internships, and local job placement after graduation.
  • Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College held their first-ever Teal and Tech Experience. Myrtle Beach Middle students explored both campuses' academic programs and facilities. CCU and HGTC plan to host the event for every HCS middle school in the future.
