HTC sponsored the HCS Middle School Basketball Championship. Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from all 13 HCS middle schools competed. Loris Middle won the boys' tournament, and Ten Oaks Middle won the girls’.
Through a collaborative partnership withHorry-Georgetown Technical College, Apprenticeship Carolina, and Partnership Grand Strand, HCS sponsored the Build Something Amazing event, a career-exploration experience for more than 400 12th graders interested in skilled trades. Faculty from select HGTC programs and local businesses shared insights about skilled labor opportunities with students.
United Way of Horry County hosted several annual reading events in schools, including Caring for Kindergartners and United to Read.
Over 100 local business owners, public figures, community leaders, and more served as judges for the 16th annual HCS Technology Fair. Santee Cooper and HTC provided the fair with critical financial and technical support, respectively, and an education partnership with Coastal Carolina University and Dell enabled the fair to hold a larger esports competition than ever before.
Over 50 public figures and business leaders from across the county participated in our Principal for a Day event. This event gave them a clear view of the opportunities available for students in our schools and what educational leadership looks like. It also enabled HCS principals to learn leadership strategies from outside education and how to better prepare students for life after school.
Partnership Grand Strand collaborated with HCS to hold a Career Readiness Showcase, in which local business and industry leaders participated in a five-month program that highlighted the diverse Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at each of our high schools. This program helps students learn about local workforce opportunities, introduces our business leaders to our CTE programs, and identifies partnership opportunities for student shadowing, internships, and local job placement after graduation.
Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College held their 2nd annual Teal and Tech Experience. More than 500 eighth-grade students from Conway Middle School and Myrtle Beach Middle explored the academic programs and facilities at both campuses. CCU and HGTC plan to host the event for every HCS middle school in the future.
The ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic once again hosted an HCS Day, where more than 250 high school students majoring in marketing, culinary services, hospitality, and turf management received a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at what’s involved in running a PGA TOUR event. The professional golf event was held in May 2025 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
The Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance partnered with HCS to highlight the incredible talent of HCS students, transforming downtown Myrtle Beach into a showcase of youthful creativity, community spirit, and entrepreneurship. The F1rst Friday Artwalk was held in April 2025 at participating venues in downtown Myrtle Beach.
Horry County Schools is partnering with the Horry County Memorial Libraries to place Lexile reading labels on books across all public libraries to help students choose appropriate titles based on their reading level.
Horry County Schools hosted its first HCS Realtors Certification Program, in collaboration with Coastal Carolinas Association of REALTORS®, to provide insights and resources to empower local realtors to better serve prospective homebuyers through more informed conversations about our schools and the value of living in our community.
