New Teacher Academy

HCS NEW TEACHER ACADEMY 2026

Welcome to HCS!  This year, our New Teacher Academy will begin at your base school. Your base school is where you will be teaching during the 2026-2027 SY. We are excited to meet you on Tuesday, July 28th for our big kickoff event for New Teacher Academy at the Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology!  Arrival will be from 7:30-8:00 a.m.  and the day will end by 4:00 p.m.

New Teacher Academy is specifically designed as an opportunity for brand new teachers as well as teachers who are new to Horry County Schools. Attendance at New Teacher Academy is not required but is highly recommended.  Because this event takes place prior to the contracted school year, educators who are not on contract will receive a stipend for attending sessions.

The dates and topics covered for each day are listed below.  If you have questions about whether or not you should attend, please communicate with your principal or supervisor. It is recommended that you attend all four days.  If there are special circumstances or schedule conflicts that limit participation, please discuss them with your principal or supervisor.

HCS staff has worked hard to differentiate the experience for our educators.  Therefore, there are many agendas.  Please look closely at the agendas and select the one that best fits your teaching assignment.  All new teachers will be together at AAST during the morning of July 28th and guidance will be provided.

New Teacher Academy is a four-day event on the following dates:

Day 1: July 27th from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Day 2: July 28th from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

• Location:  Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology (AAST)
• HCS Welcome
• Teacher Panelists
• Induction Teacher Breakout Sessions
• SCTS Mandatory Training for Experienced Teachers New to Horry County

Day 3:  July 29th from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

• Location:  See NTA Agenda for specific location by level & subject  area
• Specialized Professional Development for Specific Content and Other Areas

Day 4:  July 30th from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

• Location:  See NTA Agenda for specific location by level & subject area
• Specialized engagement training for all teachers and all levels

Technology Pickup

All teachers attending New Teacher Academy should pick up their assigned laptop and docking station during the week of July 20th - July 23rd between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm from the HCS Technology Department located in Building C at the District Office. (Devices will not be distributed earlier than July 20th.) If you are unable to pick up your device during the device pickup window, additional information will be provided at New Teacher Academy.  If you have specific questions about the pick-up process for devices, please contact Missy Johnson (Mjohnson006@horrycountyschools.net).  Devices will be needed for the New Teacher Academy. 

New hires must be Board approved prior to picking up the device. 

If you are not able to pick up your district device prior to July 28th, please visit technology in the media center upon arrival on July 28th. They will have a device that you can check out to use during NTA.
