STEM

The goal of a STEM program is to integrate the four domains of science, technology, engineering and mathematics into effective classroom practices. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) programs in Horry County Schools (HCS) provide learning opportunities for K-12 students through a transformative curriculum focused on activity-, project-, and problem-based (APB) instructional design that develops in-demand, transportable skills such as problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication in real-world, applied learning experiences. The program’s approach also provides students unique opportunities to work collaboratively, identify problems, apply what they know, persevere through challenges, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning.

Another STEM program partnership at HCS is with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). Advanced Career courses connect student learning with life and work outside the classroom through hands-on team projects that deepen understanding of the engineering design process and master essential literacy, math, science, and workplace skills.

HCS STEM offerings include PLTW and SREB.
