Dual Enrollment

According to the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy, dual credit courses are college courses approved by the student's home high school that allow students to earn both high school credit and college credit. Dual enrollment courses applicable to a baccalaureate degree, associate degree, or industry-recognized credential offered through an accredited institution may receive one additional quality point in accordance with the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy and applicable State Board of Education regulations.

Horry County Schools partners with accredited institutions of higher education through cooperative agreements to provide eligible students with access to dual enrollment opportunities. Students may enroll in approved college courses that satisfy both high school graduation requirements and college degree or credential pathways.

The following information applies to dual enrollment:

  • A three-semester-hour college course transfers as one Carnegie unit of high school credit.
  • Students may enroll only in approved dual enrollment courses that apply toward a baccalaureate degree, associate degree, or eligible certificate or credential program.
  • Students must meet all Horry County Schools and partnering institution eligibility requirements.
  • Dual enrollment opportunities are offered through Horry County Schools' cooperative agreements with approved postsecondary institutions.
  • Information regarding tuition, fees, textbooks, and any other costs associated with dual enrollment is available through the student's school counselor. 

All dual enrollment requests must be submitted through the high school counselors. Students interested in HCS Dual Enrollment opportunities must contact their school counselor for more information regarding the dual enrollment course options, dual enrollment guidelines, and dual enrollment commitment form. Course selection should be aligned with each student's Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) and post-secondary goals.
