2026 Summer Reading
Reading is one of the most important ways students can stay engaged in learning over the summer. Research shows that students who continue reading during summer break are more likely to maintain and strengthen their reading skills, while those who do not may lose ground academically. Beyond improving literacy, summer reading helps students build the stamina, critical thinking, and comprehension skills needed for future academic, career, and college success. HCS encourages all students to make reading a part of their summer plans through the opportunities outlined below. Elementary students can participate in Malcolm Mitchell’s READCamp through our partnership with the Read with Malcolm Foundation, while middle and high school students are encouraged to continue developing their independent reading habits through engaging books, articles, and course-related reading activities designed to prepare them for the year ahead.
