The Horry County Board of Education has announced its selection of Mr. Clifford “Cliff” Jones as the next Superintendent of Horry County Schools.Mr. Jones will begin his three-year contract as superintendent on or shortly after February 3, 2025.
Regarding his selection, Mr. Jones says, “I’m humbled to be chosen by the Horry County Board of Education as your next superintendent. I look forward to celebrating our successes, confronting our challenges, and creating a future where every child in Horry County Schools has the tools, opportunities, and support to achieve their dreams. Together, I believe our best days are ahead!”
Clifford Jones
Mr. Jones spent his entire 23-year education career working in Fulton County Schools, which includes the portions of the county outside of the city limits of Atlanta, Georgia. He began as a high school social studies teacher in 2001, later becoming principal at the same school. Jones advanced to positions at the district level in 2015, holding titles such as Executive Director of Accountability, Acting Chief of Strategy and Innovation, Area Superintendent, and Chief Academic Officer. He began his current position as Chief of Staff in 2023. Jones holds three master’s degrees: a Master of Arts in Modern History from the University of St. Andrews, a Master of Education in Secondary Social Studies from Georgia State University, and a Master of Business Administration from Kennesaw State University.

Superintendent Search Information
The Horry County Board of Education is currently conducting a search for a new superintendent to lead Horry County Schools. In June 2024, the School Board chose BWP & Associates to conduct a search for the next Superintendent. The names of applicants will be confidential, but in keeping with SC state law, the names of the top three finalists will be released to the public.
