  • 2021-22 Archibald Rutledge Scholarship: The Archibald Rutledge Scholarship program, named for South Carolina's first poet laureate, offers twelfth-grade students (enrolled in a public school in South Carolina) the opportunity to compete for a scholarship in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts as well as encourages and recognizes academic and artstic excellence among South Carolina students. Students will mail or deliver original compositions, process folios, and other required documentation in one of the five arts disciplines (creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts) to the South Carolina Department of Education. Deadline: The deadline to submit an entry is Monday, February 21, 2022, delivered to South Carolina Department of Education by 5:00PM or postmarked on or before Monday, February 21, 2022. Entries will not be accepted after this deadline. Amount: Five scholarships (approximately $2,000 each) will be awarded in May 2022.

Scholarships with Future Deadlines

  • WIRE Scholarship 2022: Applicants must be an active member or dependent of an active member of Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. and must live in the home with the member of Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. Amount: Awards are for one academic year for an entering college freshman for Fall 2022. $750 will be given for the fall semester; an additional $750 will be given for the spring semester contingent upon meeting the GPR requirement. $1,500 scholarship total. Deadline: All applications must be received by Horry Electric's WIRE Group by Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 12 noon. Applications received after Tuesday, March 1, 2022 are NOT eligible.

    Horry County Schools Teacher Scholarship: The purpose of this award is to recognize and support our outstanding seniors who choose to enter the field of professional education. Although the award amounts may vary, last year five $1,000 scholarships were awarded. Deadline: Monday, March 7, 2022.

    Horry County Solid Waste Authority 2021-2022 Environmental Scholarship:  Every year, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) awards one graduating high school senior from each high school a one-time $1,000 scholarship to encourage students pursuing a degree related to the environment, which supports SWA's mission of Protecting Tomorrow's Environment Today. All applicants must complete the application and answer the essay personally. Deadline: March 4, 2022.

    Horatio Algers Scholarship for Juniors: As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders. The National Scholarship is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. National Scholars receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.  Recipients must attend the National Scholars Conference to receive the award. Deadline: March 15, 2022

    South Carolina State Fair Ride of Your Life Scholarship: The South Carolina State Fair annually awards 50 scholarships to South Carolina high school students planning to pursue their studies at any public or private college, university, or technical college in the state. Amount: The $6,000 scholarships are awarded at an annual rate of $1,500 and are based on academic and extracurricular achievement, communication skills, need, and completeness of the application. Requirements: The scholarships must be used at a public or private South Carolina college, university, or technical college and may cover tuition or other educational expenses like on-campus housing, a computer, or textbooks. Recipients must retain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and enroll in no less than 30 credit hours each academic year to receive funding for that year. Scholarship applications are accepted annually, generally beginning on February 1 through March 15. Scholarship winners are announced in mid-May each year.Deadline: March 15, 2022.

    South Carolina Education Associated-Retired Education Scholarship: The South Carolina Education Association-Retired Scholarship Fund is an ongoing activity of the association. The scholarships are awarded annually and are designed to encourage promising young people to prepare for careers in education at a SACS accredited college, university, technical school, or community college in South Carolina. They will offer four scholarships of $1,000 each. Deadline: March 28, 2022.

    Dennis Brian Latimer Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given in honor of the late Retired U.S. Army Colonel Dennis Brian Latimer, a Whittemore High School graduate. The applicant must be a senior in high school and a descendant of a Whittemore High School graduate, must major in science or a related science field, plan to attend college  the semester following his or her high school graduation, and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Amount: $1,000. Deadline: April 1, 2022.

    MACWIN Waccamaw Region Scholarship: The scholarship is sponsored by Majorie Coakley McIver and Dr. Winston McIver Jr and is open to applicants who are graduated of accredited high schools in the Waccamaw Region of South Carolina (Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties). This year five scholarships will be awarded, one of which will be awarded annually to an applicant who is a family member of a victim of the Emanuel 9 tragedy. The distribution of the scholarships will include, but not be limited to, the following awards: two STEM scholarships for students pursuing education in the field of science, mathematics, medical/health science, pharmacy, architecture/engineering, sports medicine, or computer science. One education scholarship. One pre-law scholarship awarded to a student pursuing a career in the field of political science, social science, history, or cultural studies. One Emanuel 9 Legacy Scholarship (children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews). Deadline: April 1, 2022.

    Whittemore High School Alumni Scholarship: The applicant must be a descendant of an almumnus of Whittemore High School, have at least a 3.0 GPA, graduating from an accredited high school, demonstrate academic promise and financial need, include a letter of recommendation from a teacher or another adult who can provide a character reference of the applicant (this cannot be a relative), and attach a wallet-size photo to the required personal statement. Deadline: April 1, 2022.

    SIS Inspirations Merit Scholarship: The SIS Inspirations Merit Scholarship was created as a way of giving deserving young women that may have had some struggles, faced some obstacles but has persevered, and now looking forward to attend school in the fall with a little help on her journey. All applicants must complete the application and write a 500-word essay on the selected topic. Amount: $500. Deadline: April 16, 2022.
