Horry County Schools serves more than 45,000 students encompassing more than 56 schools in nine attendance areas of Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Conway, Socastee, North Myrtle Beach, Loris, Aynor, Green Sea Floyds, and St. James. HCS is the third-largest school district in South Carolina, which inspires possibilities for student success through a broad range of unique teaching and learning opportunities.
HCS offers a variety of services to our local community, in addition, members of the community have the opportunity to support the mission of the district through enhanced partnerships that support our students and schools.

Adult Education Programs
The Horry County Adult Education Center offers a variety of services to the public, including classes that prepare students to take the GED or TASC. The Education Center also offers courses on improving academic skills, workforce readiness, ESL, family literacy, and more!

Top 65
The TOP 65 card is issued to senior citizens who are 65 or older and who are residents of Horry County for their enjoyment of our school activities, including athletic events. Restrictions apply.

Volunteer Opportunities for Parents & Community Members
Do you have an hour a week? Volunteering at a school can have a positive impact on the academic success of a child. Volunteers are needed to serve as academic tutors/homework helpers, reading buddies, clerical/office assistants, monitors for playground/cafeteria, chaperones for field trips, etc. Applications are accepted year-round.

Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTO)
Members of a school’s PTO support and enrich the educational opportunities for students. This is a voluntary organization whose focus and goals are to establish a cooperative relationship between our students, staff, and administration and to encourage parental involvement at every level.

Child Development programs for at-risk four-year-olds
Horry County Schools offers a full-day Child Development (CD) program for eligible students who will be four years old on or before September 1 of the enrollment year. The CD program is an early intervention for at-risk four-year-olds and is designed to prepare children for success in kindergarten. CD classes are taught by state-certified teachers using S.C Early Learning Standards and a state-approved curriculum.

Summer Feeding Programs

Playcard Environmental Education Center
Students, staff, and the public are invited to come and experience the unique Environmental Education Center located in the northwest corner of Horry County in Loris, SC. Playcard offers a variety of free public events and naturalist workshops, including SwampFest, The Bio Blitz, Astronomy Nights, and Star Parties.

School Improvement Council
The SC School Improvement Council was first established by South Carolina law over three decades ago to provide the member training, technical assistance, statutory accountability, and other resources vital to the continued success of community-based School Improvement Councils in each of the state’s 1,100-plus K-12 public schools.
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or student elected to your local SIC, a community or business representative appointed to your council, a school or district administrator, or a member of the public committed to quality public education in South Carolina, you can find information on the School Improvement Council website that will help you get the facts you need to understand the vital roles you play in the life of our schools and the futures of our children.

HCS Annual Technology Fair
The Annual HCS Technology Fair is a district-wide event that showcases technology projects developed by students in grades PreK-12. Projects are focused on subjects such as animation, web design, digital game design, mobile apps, and many more! A variety of sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses. Judging opportunities for local businesses are also available!
