    testing

Testing will begin sharply at 8:00 each day.  These tests are not timed; however most students are typically done in about 2 ½ hours.  Please don’t schedule out of school events and appointments on the days your child will be testing and PLEASE make sure student arrives to school on time each day.  If your student is not here by 7:30 a.m., he or she might miss out on eating breakfast at school, which is most important on testing days.

    Student Participation Guidelines:

All public school students in grades three through eight must be tested with the SC READY, except those who qualify to participate in Alternate Assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

All public school students in grades four and six must be tested with the SCPASS, except those who qualify to participate in Alternate Assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

This testing policy includes all students with IEPs or 504 Plans, suspended students, home school students or virtual students who are registered through the district or local school board, homebound students, and homebased students. Also included are ML students, charter school students (including those in virtual charter schools), and students who are incarcerated. All public school students who are in attendance during the SC READY and SCPASS testing window, including make-up dates, must participate in the assessment.

During testing, students may not be in possession of any electronic device(s) that can be used for communicating, recording, timing, creating images, or storing images (including smartphones and smart watches). These devices will be collected by the TA and returned after each test session is completed.

Parent Resources — The SCDE provides assessment brochures, sample score reports, and Score Report User’s Guides which may be helpful to parents.  These resources are made available in multiple formats, including languages other than English (e.g., Chinese, Russian, and Spanish), and in an accessible version compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.  You look here for SC Ready files or here for SCPASS files.

If you have any questions related to these tests, please contact our testing coordinator, Laurie Thomas, by phone at 843-399-2204, ext. 663415 or by email at lthomas001@horrycountyschools.net.

     Thanks,

     Laurie G. Thomas, M.Ed.
