2023-2024 Myrtle Beach Middle Teacher of the Year

Mr. James Mau 

Hi, my name is James Mau and I teach 8th grade Science at Myrtle Beach Middle School. I have spent the entirety of my teaching career at Myrtle Beach Middle. I attended Coastal Carolina University from 2015 through 2017 and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Middle-Level Education with an emphasis on Science and Social Studies. Before returning to college to seek a degree in teaching, I attended Coastal Carolina University from 2002 to 2006 and received a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport Management. 

I am originally from Georgetown, South Carolina but currently live in Conway. My wife and I have been married for seventeen years and have three beautiful children. In my spare time, I can be found cheering my children on in various sports. I also can be found umpiring recreational baseball and softball games during the season. I am an avid sports and music fan. My wife and I love to attend concerts whenever we can.

I was never supposed to be a school teacher. I originally planned to make parks and recreation my career. I came into this profession non-traditionally and it took me a little bit longer than most to figure out that this was where I am supposed to be but I absolutely love what I do. I am incredibly honored to have been selected to be the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year for Myrtle Beach Middle School! It is such a privilege to represent my school.
