Mrs. Jessica Miller
2022-2023 Myrtle Beach Middle School Teacher of the Year
Top 10 Semifinalist for Horry County Schools Teacher of the Year
I’m Mrs. Miller. This is my 8th year teaching at Myrtle Beach Middle School. As long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I teach special education and serve as the MBMS Special Education Department Chair. Along with teaching, I have coached cheerleading for 6 years at Myrtle Beach, currently coaching the roles of Head JV Cheerleading coach and Assistant Varsity Competition Cheerleading Coach.
At school, I enjoy building relationships with my students and students around the building. It is important to get to know them and let them get to know me. Building relationships with my students creates a positive learning environment by making them feel supported, giving them a safe space, and, overall, improves learning performance. Once those relationships are built, I enjoy teaching my students academic, functional, and social skills that will build upon the independence they need for a meaningful life.
I am originally from Manahawkin, New Jersey. I moved to Myrtle Beach to attend Coastal Carolina University in 2011. I have earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Masters Degree in Special Education, along with other certifications, through Coastal Carolina University.
My husband, Chris, and I have been married for 2 years now and have two step-sons. My husband and I are excited to share that we are expecting our first son in March 2022. At home, I have two playful cats named Ellie and Eli. Some of my favorite things include coffee, sunflowers, ice cream, and crafts. In my free time, I enjoy camping, kayaking, hiking, doing crafts, and cleaning!
I am very grateful to be recognized as MBMS’s teacher of the year. It is truly an honor to represent my school and community. Being nominated as teacher of the year signifies that I have earned the respect of my peers and colleagues and that they acknowledge my passion and dedication to the various professional roles I partake in the school and community. Teacher of the year is a delightful reminder that I am making a positive and effective impact on my students, colleagues, and the people around me!
