SC DHEC School Recycling Grant
The Recycling Education Grant program is available to schools to promote awareness of solid waste issues, including the need to reduce the solid waste we generate, and to recycle whenever we can
Loris Middle School continues to instill the value of recycling and the importance of our role in creating a world that is responsible for a sustainable future. This grant supports recycling education in our school enabling us to delve further into recycling in the art room, creating “Junk Journals”. A junk journal is a book made with a mix of new, found and recycled materials. While using traditional materials, they experience creativity while innovating new ways to recycle.

Tanger Kids Grant
The TangerKids Grants program invites teachers and leaders within the education community to request funding for resources to support needs as they work to create a more productive and more inclusive learning environment for all.
This project will focus on clay, the science behind the properties of different clay bodies and glazes and how to alter different elements and temperatures within the kiln for varied results. Working with a clay medium will allow students to become familiar with a variety of tools. Our goal is to expand facilities and equipment improving the opportunities available to students in the Visual Arts, purchasing clay equipment and materials such as a slab roller, clay extruder, clay, and glaze. Some projects that we would like to explore are slab building functional pottery such as plates, trays, bowls, and mugs. Also woven clay baskets (integrating textile arts) that utilize an extruder.
