Maquitta Davis Awarded Mission-Ready Champion Educator by United Way of Horry County

September 15, 2026

The United Way of Horry County (UWHC) has given Conway Elementary Principal Maquitta Davis their Education Award for 2026, naming her a “mission-ready champion educator.”

UWHC’s Director of Education, Richard Williams, Jr., explained that this award celebrated 30 years of partnership and legacy, as well as the impact Ms. Davis has had on students and the community.

Conway Elementary has hosted a number of UWHC’s programs, including United to Read, Caring for Kindergartners, United in Legacy, and community baby showers. The school has also piloted UWHC’s new Ready, Set, Kindergarten program, hosting preschool students and their families on weekends to provide resources and acclimate them to the school setting.

Ms. Davis said that the school’s partnership with UWHC “has been one of the most meaningful and impactful partnerships our school has experienced.” She explained that the partnership matters “because children don’t grow up in silos; they grow up in communities. When schools, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers come together to share in a common belief that every child deserves the chance to succeed, we create something powerful.”

Congratulations, Ms. Davis! Thank you for the many contributions you and the rest of the staff at Conway Elementary have made to your students and your community. We’re thrilled you’re receiving the recognition you deserve.
