Presidential Leadership Partnership

HCS is proud to announce the launch of our Presidential Leadership Partnership with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. The foundation offers a leadership simulation in which students won’t just learn about history, they’ll live it by taking on the roles of President Reagan, cabinet members, military leaders, and even the Press Corps to resolve an actual historical crisis: 1983’s Operation Urgent Fury.

Every middle school in HCS has 8th-grade social studies teachers learning how to implement the foundation’s leadership simulation, which is aligned to state standards for English Language Arts. Dr. Richard Schroeder, Chief Education Programming Officer for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, says that this simulation “is a civics lesson, and it’s also a great way for students to practice civil discourse.” Horry County is the only district in the state to bring this one-of-a-kind simulation to its students.

The Presidential Leadership Partnership isn’t limited to 8th graders, though. Each of our high schools will also send one student every summer, all expenses paid, to the foundation’s Great American Leadership Program in California, where they will explore President Reagan’s legacy of leadership firsthand at his presidential library and museum.

We are thrilled to provide our students with this one-of-a-kind opportunity to build the skills they’ll need to become the next generation of American leaders.
