  • Application Requirements

    PLEASE NOTE:  All required documentation must be submitted BEFORE the closing date of the job opening.  Cover letters and current references (completed within the past year) must be applicable to the position in which you are applying.

    Administrative & Non-Teaching Professionals

    In order to submit an administrative application you must submit an online application and the following:
    • Resume
    • Valid administrative certificate (if applicable)
    • Transcript(s)/Diploma
    • Three professional reference letters 
    • Cover Letter/Letter of Interest
      • The cover letter for a principal position  must address the following areas:
        • Identify your current position and describe your duties and responsibilities
        • Describe the characteristics of your current school and district
        • Describe your experiences as an instructional leader
        • Describe your professional accomplishments
        • Identify extracurricular activities in which you have been a sponsor
        • Identify your involvement in community activities

    Certified Teachers

    In order to submit a teacher application you must submit an online application and the following:
    • Resume
    • Transcript(s)
    • Valid teaching certificate (if applicable)
    • Three professional references (form or letter)
    • Out of state applicants must provide a copy of Praxis scores
    • New graduates should also submit a letter of completion from their college, transcript with conferred degree date and Praxis scores.
    • PACE candidates should also submit a letter of eligibility from SCDE and Praxis scores.

    Support Staff

    Please submit the following with your online application:
    • Proof of education*.
      • High school Diploma/GED
      • Paraprofessional/WorkKeys Assessment Results
      • College Degree/Transcript(s) - Only accredited schools will be accepted.
    • Three professional references (listed on the application)
    *Minimum education requirements are a high school diploma or GED.


    In order to become a substitute with Horry County Schools, you must attend a substitute workshop. Please check the job openings for substitute workshop dates. You will be notified if you have been approved to attend the workshop. Please do not attend without getting approval from the Substitute Office.

    Please note: Horry County Schools does not post substitute vacancies. If we host a substitute workshop, we will have it posted in the job openings. Please check the website regularly for updated information.

    Education Requirements:
    Substitute Custodian/Cafeteria Worker: High School Diploma
    Substitute Paraprofessional: Associate's Degree/60 College Credit Hours/Paraprofessional Test
    Substitute Teacher: Bachelor's Degree
