Service Learning Project

February 3, 2020

Dear Parents,

It is time for our annual Green Sea Floyds Elementary service-learning project. As you know, we work hard each year to build strong relationships among students, parents, teachers, and our school community. We want our students to learn to give back and help one another.

Our service-learning project this year will be in memory of Tanner Buffkin. Tanner was a student at GSFE and GSFH. He was diagnosed with cancer last year and received his treatments at the children’s hospital at MUSC. He was strong and so brave. We want to keep his memory alive and help other children and families in need at the hospital.  The children’s cancer center at MUSC needs the following items that will be beneficial to the patients.

Our service-learning project is set to take place during February 10-21. Each grade level will be collecting a specific item. Listed below are the items that each grade level will collect:

  • Child development and Kindergarten- Coloring books and/or crayons
  • 1st and 2nd grade- Board books
  • 3rd and 4th grade- Construction paper
  • 5th grade- Silly straws and/ or cups with lids and straws

We would like to encourage everyone to participate in this great opportunity to support others. All the donated items will be given directly to the MUSC children’s hospital in memory of Tanner.
